A sand screen joint for use with a control line. The sand screen joint may include a shroud having a channel extending longitudinally across the shroud and a control line clamp coupled to the shroud. The control line clamp may include a base having a profile that aligns with the channel of the shroud and a lid that engages with the base to retain the lid in a closed position and to retain the control line within the control line clamp.

A technique facilitates the inflow of desired fluids into a downhole well completion while restricting the inflow of undesirable fluids. The technique utilizes at least one autonomous inflow control device which is placed along a well completion to control inflow of fluid from an exterior to an interior of the well completion. The autonomous inflow control device utilizes a plurality of shiftable elements which automatically shift in their relative positions based on the density of fluid in the autonomous inflow control device. This automatic shifting causes the alignment or misalignment of flow openings so as to allow free flow of a desired fluid through the autonomous inflow control device and into the interior of the completion while automatically restricting flow of an undesirable fluid.

A technique facilitates installation of a completion system having sequentially coupled base pipes and a corresponding alternate path system having alternate path shunt tubes. Sequential base pipes may be joined via a base pipe coupling. The alternate path shunt tubes disposed along sequential base pipes are then connected by jumper tubes. Additionally, the base pipe coupling and the jumper tubes are enclosed with a multi-section shroud by closing shroud sections over the base pipe coupling and the jumper tubes. A torque resistance system is employed to provide torsional rigidity along the shroud.

A tool includes a mandrel and at least one gate. The mandrel includes a bore, and the mandrel is able to connect in-line with at least one sand control device of a bottom hole assembly such that the mandrel is coaxial with the at least one sand control device. The mandrel also includes a flow path configuration, such as, at least one flow path connecting the at least one sand control device to the bore, at least one flow path connecting the bore to at least two sand control devices, and at least one flow path connecting the bore to the at least one sand control device and to another device of the bottom hole assembly. The at least one gate has an initial position, and the at least one gate is configured to move from the initial position into a different position to control fluid flow.

A technique facilitates dehydration of gravel slurry around blank pipe sections of a completion having filters for receiving carrier fluid returns. A sand screen filter system may be assembled with a first filter, a second filter, and a blank pipe section extending between the first filter and the second filter. A fixed leak off tube is mounted to the sand screen filter system such that at least a portion of the fixed leak off tube overlaps the first filter. Additionally, a slidable leak off tube is slidably mounted to the sand screen filter system. The slidable leak off tube is oriented to enable the slidable leak off tube to be slid along the blank pipe section until secured in fluid communication with the fixed leak off tube.

A technique facilitates formation of a gravel pack along relatively lengthy wellbores. According to an embodiment, a completion system comprises a screen assembly and an alternate path system disposed along the screen assembly. The alternate path system may include a transport tube and a packing tube placed in fluid communication at a manifold. The manifold is disposed along the screen assembly. In some embodiments, the completion system may comprise multiple screen assemblies with multiple corresponding manifolds. The packing tube is protected against erosion by a liner and a surrounding housing which are positioned to conduct fluid flow from the manifold as fluid flow moves from the transport tube, through the manifold, and into the packing tube during a gravel packing operation.

A technique facilitates a gravel packing operation in a well. The system may utilize a Y-manifold having a manifold body through which or along which a gravel slurry may be flowed. A plurality of exit end shunt connectors extends from the manifold body to enable connection with corresponding exit end shunt tubes at a position separated from the manifold body. Additionally, a plurality of entrance end shunt connectors extends from the manifold body in a direction generally opposite the exit end shunt connectors. The extended entrance end shunt connectors enable connection with corresponding entrance end shunt tubes at a position separated from the manifold body.

A technique facilitates formation of a gravel pack along relatively lengthy wellbores. According to an embodiment, a completion system comprises a plurality of screen assemblies. The completion system also has an alternate path system disposed along the plurality of screen assemblies. The alternate path system includes shunt tubes, e.g. transport tubes, coupled together by jumper tubes. An anti-buckling structure is coupled to each jumper tube to prevent buckling when high operational pressures, e.g. operating pressures of 9000 psi or higher, are applied to the alternate path system.

A technique facilitates formation of a gravel pack. A well completion is provided to facilitate improved gravel packing during a gravel packing operation and subsequent production. The well completion is constructed to freely return a gravel pack carrier fluid through a base pipe during gravel packing. A valve system is positioned to enable restriction of fluid flow into the base pipe following the gravel packing operation. The valve system may be selectively actuated to restrict the fluid flow into the base pipe via a signal such as a pressure signal or timed electric signal.

System and methodology for controlling fluid flow

A technique facilitates a well operation employing at least one dehydration tube. The at least one dehydration tube is located along an exterior of a plurality of screen assemblies deployed in a wellbore and is fluidly coupled to a base pipe of at least one of the screen assemblies. The fluid coupling provides fluid access to the base pipe through a base pipe opening. Fluid flow along the at least one dehydration tube is controlled with a flow control mechanism. Additionally, an inflow of fluid from an exterior to an interior of select screen assemblies is separately controlled with an inflow control device associated with each select screen assembly.

Sand control system and methodology

A technique facilitates assembly and deployment of a sand screen assembly string. The sand screen assembly string is constructed by providing sequential base pipe joints combined with corresponding alternate path tubes. The sequential base pipe joints are joined together in a manner which brings sequential, corresponding alternate path tubes into close proximity with each other at a location external to the sequential base pipe joints. The sequential, corresponding alternate path tubes are readily coupled together by a connector which is movably mounted along at least one of the alternate path tubes for movement into engagement with the other alternate path tube.

A downhole tool includes a housing. The housing includes a screen. A valve system is positioned within the housing. The valve system includes a valve and a flow control device. The valve system has a first position where the valve allows a flow within the housing, a second position where the valve directs at least a portion of the flow through the flow control device, and a third position stopping flow through the flow control device.

Valve for gravel packing a wellbore

A downhole tool includes a housing having a screen. An inner tubular member is positioned radially-inward from the housing such that an annulus is formed therebetween, and a first opening is formed radially-through the inner tubular member. A valve is positioned within the annulus. A flow control device is positioned within the annulus. A degradable member is configured to at least partially degrade in response to contact with a fluid. The valve is configured to actuate from a first position to a second position in response to the degradable member at least partially degrading. This changes a proportion of the fluid that flows through the flow control device after entering through the screen.

System and method for gravel packing a wellbore

A technique facilitates formation of a gravel pack. Gravel slurry is delivered downhole through at least one solid walled tube disposed externally to a base pipe positioned in a wellbore. A structure is used to enable connection of base pipe joints while enabling flow of the gravel slurry past the base pipe joint connection and into a corresponding downstream tube or tubes. The gravel slurry is then discharged at a desired location to help form the gravel pack by depositing the gravel and separating the carrier fluid. The separated carrier fluid is returned back through at least one permeable dehydration tube.

System and methodology for forming gravel packs

A technique facilitates formation of a gravel pack. Gravel slurry is delivered downhole at least in part along a transport conduit from one screen joint to the next. Downstream of a joint connection between two adjacent screen joints, gravel slurry from the transport conduit flows into a gravel slurry chamber. From the gravel slurry chamber, the gravel slurry flows into at least one packing conduit or into at least one packing conduit and at least one transport conduit. The packing conduits are used to discharge the gravel slurry for formation of a gravel pack in a wellbore annulus surrounding the gravel packing system, and the transport conduits are used to deliver the gravel slurry to downstream screen joints for discharge at a more distant location along the wellbore.
