An image capture unit and computer readable medium used in combination therewith includes an image capturing sensor, a visual display, an instance of the computer readable medium, and circuitry for integrating functionalities thereof. The computer readable medium causes sensor data received from the image capturing sensor to be processed. The sensor data includes a plurality of image tiles and position indicating data defining a respective relative position of each one of each image tiles. Each one of each image tiles includes data representing a discrete portion of visual content. The computer readable medium causes a feedback image be displayed on the visual display. Displaying the feedback image includes correlate the relative position of each one of each image tiles with at least one other image tile that has been previously generated and displayed.

An image capture unit and computer readable medium used in combination therewith is disclosed. In a preferred embodiment, the image capture unit includes an image capturing sensor, a visual display, an instance of the computer readable medium, and circuitry for integrating functionalities thereof. A handheld scanner system and method is disclosed. The depicted embodiment is a mouse scanner system operable to scan a document. In this embodiment, the mouse scanner system includes a scanner built into a computer mouse and a scanner software application operating on a computer. The scanner includes a positioning system operable to output position indicating data and an imaging system operable to output captured image data. The data is sent to the scanner software application where a feedback image is constructed and displayed on a display in real-time or near real-time to allow the user to view what areas have been scanned. The scanner software application also constructs an output image that can be printed, saved or communicated.

Handheld scanner and system comprising same

An image processing system and method is disclosed. The image processing system can be configured for use with a mouse scanner system operable to scan a document. The mouse scanner system includes a scanner built into a computer mouse and the image processing system includes a scanner software application operating on a computer. The scanner includes a positioning system operable to output position indicating data and an imaging system operable to output captured image data. The data is sent to the scanner software application where a feedback image is constructed and displayed on a display in real, or near real, time to allow the user to view what areas have been scanned. The scanner software application also constructs an output image that can be printed, saved or communicated.

Image processing handheld scanner system, method, and computer readable medium

A system and method facilitating an operating system user's ability to reference objects in a distributed file system having an incompatible namespace. Compatibility is thereby provided between DFS namespaces and operating system pathname syntax not supported in the DFS. A DFS pathname prefix is associated with each drive letter that is attached to a DFS IFS driver. Before an IFS driver is used, an application program issues a command to associate a drive letter with a particular IFS driver. The command issued also carries a DFS pathname prefix within a data buffer. The IFS services the command by validating existence of the DFS pathname prefix, and thereafter stores such prefix into an internal table of the buffer where it is associated with the attached drive letter. File system requests later received by the DFS client IFS driver carrying a pathname containing that drive letter will have their file specifications edited by the DFS code prior to processing. The drive letter in the pathname is replaced by the DFS pathname prefix from the IFS driver's internal table, and operating system slashes in operating system pathname are converted to DFS slashes. The operating system user may thereby reference DFS objects relative to a point in the DFS namespace using the operating system's pathname syntax which the user is more comfortable with.

System and method for providing compatibility between distributed file

A system and method to provide native support in a distributed computing environment distributed file system for an operating system's extended file attributes. Such attributes remain invisible in the namespace which the operating system's distributed file system clients may access. A directory of the form .*.sub.-- for a file in DFS namespace is created for which extended attributes (EA) are required, with a subdirectory thereunder whose name is that of the file. Extended attributes are filed under this .*.sub.-- directory having filenames of the attributes' names. Provision is made for discriminating EAs and for efficiently accessing total EA size and number of critical EAs, by cumulating and storing them in an additional file under the subdirectory.

System and method for supporting file attributes on a distributed file

A user/PC interface system is described which enables the creation and performance of a synchronized audio/visual story on the PC. The interface enables the initial storage of a plurality of visual images. Then, it enables the creation of an audio presentation which includes labels and time indications, certain of which are employed for synchronization purposes. The system is responsive to a label to execute a predetermined command upon the appearance of the label in the audio presentation. The PC is then operated to perform the audio presentation, that performance automatically causing the display of visual images upon the occurrence of labels and time indications. An improved, table-based authoring system is also described for preparation of both the above noted audio and visual presentations. The system relies upon columnar presentations of a tabular form, each column indicating a separate control function (or comment) relating to the audio/visual presentation.

Computer-based, audio/visual creation and presentation system and method

A system and method for use in a digitized audio data editing system for efficiently resequencing the audio data having indexes thereto. During resequencing, an audio index range table of such indexes is constructed. The table provides indications of consecutive index ranges of previously processed indexes. By traversing the table during resequencing to determine if a current index is a duplicate of any previously processed index corresponding to a previously copied audio segment, the necessity to compare each index with every index previously copied over is thereby avoided, which otherwise becomes increasingly inefficient as more indexes are copied over and thus the number of indexes to compare expands. Time required to process a resequence is accordingly significantly reduced.

System and method for rebuilding edited digital audio files

A method and apparatus are disclosed for the audio editing of MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) files. MIDI files make it possible to exchange information such as: musical notes, program changes, expression control and channel information between musical instruments, sequencers, computers, lighting controllers and mixers. MIDI files generally consist of serially listed channel and system messages which include at least program status messages and matching note on and note off messages. The method and apparatus of the present invention may be utilized to ensure the integrity of a source file, a copied or lifted section or a target file by automatically inserting matching note on or note off messages into a file or file section to correct inconsistencies created by such editing. Additionally, program status messages are automatically inserted into source files, copied or lifted sections, or target files to yield results which are consistent with the results which may be obtained by editing digital audio data. Timing information is selectively added or maintained such that MIDI files may be selectively edited without requiring a user to learn a complex MIDI sequencer.

A method and apparatus are disclosed for simultaneously outputting digital audio and MIDI synthesized music utilizing a single digital signal processor. The Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) permits music to be recorded and/or synthesized utilizing a data file containing multiple serially listed program status messages and matching note on and note off messages. In contrast, digital audio is generally merely compressed, utilizing a suitable data compression technique, and recorded. The audio content of such a digital recording may then be restored by decompressing the recorded data and converting that data utilizing a digital-to-analog convertor. The method and apparatus of the present invention selectively and alternatively couples portions of a compressed digital audio file and a MIDI file to a single digital signal processor which alternately decompresses the digital audio file and implements a MIDI synthesizer. Decompressed audio and MIDI synthesized music are then alternately coupled to two separate buffers. The contents of these buffers are then additively mixed and coupled through a digital-to-analog convertor to an audio output device to create an output having concurrent digital audio and MIDI synthesized music.

Method and apparatus for simultaneous output of digital audio and midi

An audio editor comprising circuitry for converting a received audio sound recording into digital data blocks, where each data block represents a corresponding portion of the sound recording during a predetermined time interval. Also included is circuitry for storing the data blocks as a consecutive sequence representing the sound recording. A display circuit is provided for display the data blocks as a timed based graphical representation to a user. Also provided is a method of displaying the sound recording including the steps of (1) converting the received sound recording into digital data blocks, (2) displaying an axis representing time, (3) displaying a graphical representation of the digital data adjacent to the time axis corresponding to the relative time position of a corresponding sound recording portion in that time period, and (4) displaying at least one user locatable mark on the time axis representing a time point of the sound recording.
