The present invention relates to seals which may be used in an image forming apparatus. The seals may prevent the leakage of image forming materials, e.g. as between a blade or a roll and an image forming apparatus housing.

Dynamic seal for component surfaces

A semiconductor substrate for an ink jet printhead. The substrate includes a silicon substrate having a thickness ranging from about 500 to about 900 microns and having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface. One or more ink feed slots are formed in the silicon substrate from the first surface to the second surface thereof. The ink feed slots have a first width dimension, opposing first ends, and a first length dimension between the opposing first ends adjacent the first surface of the substrate. Stress relieving openings are provided adjacent the opposing first ends of the ink feed slots. The stress relieving openings provide an overall feed slot length dimension, have a radius greater than the first width dimension of the ink feed slots and have a radius to first length dimension ratio ranging from about 1:60 to about 1:250.

Ink jet printheads and method therefor

The invention described in the specification relates to an improved ink jet printer cartridge structure which includes a substrate carrier or nose piece upon which semiconductor devices for ink jet printheads are mounted. The substrate carrier has a top surface containing one or more substrate locator wells each well having well walls, a well base and at least one ink feed slot in each well base and side walls attached to the top surface along the perimeter thereof. One or more of the side walls contain fins for heat removal from the substrate carrier and at least two alignment devices attached adjacent at least one of the side walls for precisely aligning the substrate carrier in a printer carriage. Among the advantages of the substrate carrier is that it provides a suitable means for substrate alignment for multiple substrates, a means for cooling multiple substrates, a means for fixedly or removably attaching the carrier to a ink reservoir body and a means for accurately aligning the carrier and reservoir body in a carriage of a printer.

Ink jet cartridge structure

The invention provides an ink jet pen including a cartridge body having a printhead and a replaceable ink cartridge removably positionable on the cartridge body. At least one cooperating elongate recess and at least one projection are located on the mutually facing surfaces of the ink cartridge and the cartridge body. The projection and recess are engageable with one another for guidably positioning the ink cartridge to a desired position relative to the cartridge body.

The invention relates to an ink cartridge body which is removably mountable in a printer carriage area of an ink jet printer and an alignment and latching mechanism for the ink cartridge body. The printer carriage area includes at least first and second spaced-apart elongate guide rails and the ink cartridge body includes a printhead and at least two bearing points at predetermined locations on the ink cartridge body, each of the bearing points disposed on the cartridge body for separately engaging at least one of the elongate guide rails for aligning and maintaining the printhead in a predetermined orientation relative to the print media in the printer. The invention substantially reduces the number of parts and tolerances thereof required for aligning a printhead relative to a print media by directly aligning the cartridge body rather than the carrier in the carriage area of the printer.

Ink cartridge body and carrier assembly

A cartridge body contains one or more printheads on a first surface thereof and one or more connection apertures in flow communication with the one or more printheads, each aperture having an opening on a second surface opposite the first surface, and one or more separate ink filtration devices, each having an ink outlet port connected to the second surface of the cartridge body through an opening so that each ink outlet port is in flow communication with at least one connection aperture. The separate devices enable production of a cartridge body made of a material which is effective for removing heat from the printheads.

Printhead apparatus and printer having separate filtration device and method for attaching said device

A printhead comprises a source of ink, a body, a mounting base, and an ink heater thermally coupled to the mounting base. A flowpath delivers ink from the ink source to the heater and is defined at least in part by the mounting base on the body. Three or more thermally conductive paths extend from the mounting base to the body. Preferably, one or more of the thermally conductive paths are heat conductive bridges extending from the mounting base to the body through an edge feed via.

Printhead configuration

An ink jet printhead body includes one or more zones for cleaning, guiding and stabilizing a printhead wiper of an ink jet printer. The printhead body includes a receptacle providing a reservoir for ink, and the receptacle includes a wall having an outer surface. The wall includes a region at which location of one or more ink discharge nozzles is established. A plurality of ribs is located in each of the wiper cleaning zones, which in turn is located to be adjacent the wall region. The orientation of the ribs may be defined with reference to a first axis extending in the plane of the outer wall surface and intersecting the wall region in a first direction, and by a second axis, or axis of symmetry, extending in the plane of the outer wall surface and extending substantially parallel to an edge of the wall and through a central portion of the region to perpendicularly intersect the first axis. The orientation of the plurality of ribs is such that a direction of elongation of at least some of the plurality of ribs is in a direction substantially non-orthogonal to both the first axis and the second axis. The plurality of ribs defines a plurality of non-rectangular cavities. The plurality of ribs and plurality of cavities cooperate to remove and collect excess ink and contaminants from the printhead wiper.

The invention is directed to an ink jet cartridge assembly, including a cartridge body and a print head. The cartridge body includes a die cavity and at least one groove disposed in communication with the die cavity and with an ambient environment. The print head is disposed at least partially within the die cavity. An adhesive is disposed within the die cavity between the body and the print head for bonding the print head to the body. The at least one groove defines a vent to the ambient atmosphere for a gas which may be produced during curing of the adhesive.
