A device implementing a dynamic local media access control (MAC) address assignment system may include at least one processor that is configured to initiate a link establishment with a network device. The at least one processor may be further configured to determine whether a previously assigned media access control (MAC) address is stored locally. The at least one processor may be further configured to transmit a message to the network device requesting validation of the previously assigned MAC address when stored locally. The at least one processor may be further configured to communicate using the previously assigned MAC address when the validation is received from the network device, otherwise communicating using a dynamically assigned MAC address received from the network device during the link establishment.

Dynamic local media access control (MAC) address assignment

A system for sensing in an industrial environment includes a processing node configured to receive a first sensor data from a first sensor and a second sensor data from a second sensor, both of which are disposed in the industrial environment. The processing node is further configured to process randomly sampled data from at least one of the first sensor data and the second sensor data to generate processed sensor data that includes the randomly sampled data. The processing node further configured to identify data of interest from the processed sensor data based on comparison of the processed sensor data with a sampling dictionary of predetermined information. The processing node further configured to filter and assemble the identified data of interest to create a set of compressed data, and transmit the set of compressed data to a predetermined destination.

Aspects of a method and system for content selection, delivery and payment may comprise a management entity that coordinates operation of one or more endpoint devices. The one or more endpoint devices may be operable to select one or more parameters associated with a particular content type from the management entity. The particular content type may specify a type of media content that is handled by the one or more endpoint devices. The one or more endpoint devices may be operable to receive configuration information from the management entity based on the selected one or more parameters associated with the particular content type. The one or more endpoint devices may be configured utilizing the received configuration information. The one or more endpoint devices may be operable to pay for the received configuration information.

Method and system for content selection, delivery and payment

A device implementing a dynamic local media access control (MAC) address assignment system may include at least one processor circuit. The at least one processor circuit may be configured to transmit an address request packet including a proposed MAC address and a device identifier to devices on a network. The at least one processor circuit may be further configured to determine whether any reply packets are received that indicate that another device has claimed the MAC address prior to expiration of a probe timer. The at least one processor circuit may be further configured to transmit an address claim packet including the MAC address when the probe timer expires before any reply packets are received from other devices. The at least one processor circuit may be further configured to communicate over the network using the proposed MAC address after transmitting the address claim packet.

An environment, such as an industrial environment, may include a control network with multiple network devices. A network device in the control network may have groups of communication ports servicing upstream and/or downstream network traffic. The group of communication ports may have, for example, two communication ports. Transmission parameters of the communication ports may be dynamically configured based on a first network port configuration and a second network port configuration for the first and second communication ports, respectively. The first network port configuration may have different transmission parameters than the second network port configuration. The first network port may forward data packets over the control network according to the first network port configuration, while the second network port may forward data packets to the next hop device utilizing the second network port configuration.

Adaptive industrial network

A device in an industrial environment may adapt communications to account for industrial noise in the industrial environment. The device may send a first communication to a destination device in the industrial environment using a first communication technology. The device may access noise prediction data for the industrial environment, and the noise prediction data may indicate predicted noise for one or more portions of the industrial environment, including a communication pathway to the destination device using the first communication technology. The device may adapt a subsequent communication to the destination device to account for the predicted noise along the communication pathway.

An apparatus for transmitting data across a high-speed serial bus includes an IEEE 802.3-compliant PHY having a GMII interface; an IEEE 1394-compliant PHY in communication with the IEEE 802.3-compliant PHY via a switch; the switch determining whether data transmission is to be routed to the IEEE 802.3-compliant PHY or the IEEE 1394-compliant PHY; a first connection, the first connection for transmitting data between a device and the IEEE 802.3-compliant PHY; and a second connection, the second connection for transmitting data between a device and the IEEE 1394-compliant PHY.

Methods and apparatus for bridged data transmission and protocol translation in a high-speed serialized data system

A temporary work group system may include one or more network devices and one or more working devices. The network device can allocate an access point in a network to provide network access to a temporary work group. Working devices may be selectively identified by the network device as being available for inclusion in the temporary work group based on a first predetermined criteria that includes proximity to the access point and authentication of each of the working devices. Selectively identified working devices can be associated with the temporary work group based on a second predetermined criteria that includes a respective relative location of the working devices and respective functionality of the working devices. The system may preempt working devices from association with the work group session until such devices meet both the first predetermined criteria and the second predetermined criteria.

System for preemptive and proximate association in industrial networks

One or more processors and/or one or more circuits may be operable to configure one or more virtual machines and a hypervisor for controlling the one or more virtual machines. The virtual machines and the hypervisor may be distributed across a plurality of network devices. A sub-hypervisor may be configured within each of the virtual machines utilizing the hypervisor. Load information of the network devices may be communicated to the hypervisor utilizing the sub-hypervisors. The virtual machines may include threads, may be load balanced utilizing the hypervisor, dynamically configured utilizing the hypervisor based on changes in the network devices, and scaled by the distribution of the virtual machines across the network devices. Information from the processing of data may be received in the virtual machines. The network devices may include a plurality of: servers, switches, routers, racks, blades, mainframes, personal data assistants, smart phones, desktop computers, and/or laptop devices.

Method and system for abstracting virtual machines in a network comprising plurality of hypervisor and sub-hypervisors

While transmitting a first Ethernet frame from the first buffer onto an Ethernet link, a first Ethernet device may stop transmitting the first frame prior to completing transmission of the frame. The first Ethernet device may then transmit a second frame from a second buffer onto the Ethernet link. The first Ethernet device may resume transmission of the first frame from the first buffer onto the Ethernet link. A second Ethernet device may receive, via the Ethernet link, a first portion of a first Ethernet frame and store the first portion of the first Ethernet frame in a first buffer. The second Ethernet device may then receive, via the Ethernet link, a second Ethernet frame and store the second Ethernet frame in a second buffer. The second Ethernet device may then receive, via the Ethernet link, a second portion of the first Ethernet frame and append it to the contents of the first buffer.

Packet preemption for low latency

Communication devices may determine routes for packets based on packet marking, routing parameters and/or costs associated with routes. A route may be selected and the packets may be communicated via the selected route. The parameters may comprise service class, real time compression, packet preemption, quality measurements, tier bypass and/or power usage information. The costs may comprise capacity, efficiency and/or performance information for power usage, bandwidth, memory and/or processing. The marking may comprise traffic type, user device capabilities, service class, quality measurements, latency requirements and/or power usage information. Endpoint devices, software applications and/or service providers may insert the marking into packets. Routes may be determined and/or selected based on shortest path bridging, audio video bridging, the marking, the routing parameters and/or the costs. Parameters and/or costs may be received and/or discovered from communication devices. Packets and/or the marking may be parsed and/or inspected. Costs may be based on routing parameters.

Method and system for dynamic routing and/or switching in a network

A switching fabric, within a network switching device, may comprise a plurality of dedicated interface modules to enable the switching fabric to interface with a plurality of switching support subsystems. The switching support subsystems may comprise a memory subsystem, a content address memory (CAM) subsystem, a packet processing subsystem, and a physical layer (PHY) subsystem. The switching fabric may be operable to determine capacity and/or capability of each of the plurality of switching support subsystems; and to configure each of the plurality of dedicated interface modules based on the determined capacity and/or capability of a corresponding switching support subsystem. The switching fabric also comprises an inter-switch interface module to enable coupling the network switching device to a plurality of other network switching devices, to form a multi-device switching mesh that enable sharing of resources and/or aggregation of switching capabilities of the network switching devices.
