In an example, a circuit for controlling at least two electronic switches in a parallel configuration between a power supply and a load. The circuit includes a control circuit to generate first and second control signals to control first and second electronic switches of the at least two electronic switches, and establish a conduction sequence of the first and second electronic switches using the first and second control signals. The circuit includes a detection circuit configured to detect a current flowing through a control terminal of the first electronic switch during a transition portion, wherein the circuit is configured to adjust the first control signal and establish the second portion of the conduction sequence in response to the detected current.

Circuit and method for pulse width modulation

A power converter circuit can be operated in a constant-current mode when a monitored output current exceeds a specified over-current threshold. A value representing an output voltage of the power converter circuit can be compared to a soft-start voltage reference value. The soft-start voltage reference value can be set (or reset) to a value representing the output voltage of the power converter when the difference between the soft-start voltage reference value and the value representing the output voltage of the power converter is greater than a specified threshold. The output voltage of the power converter can be regulated using the soft-start voltage reference value as a target voltage including ramping the soft-start voltage reference value at specified rate to maintain the soft-start voltage reference value within a specified range of a specified regulated output voltage value, such as to constrain a slew rate of the regulated output voltage.

Over-current recovery including overshoot suppression

A control circuit eliminates the Zeno phenomenon in a power supply controller while transferring control from a primary side controller to a secondary side controller. The primary side controller generates a feedback voltage (e.g., threshold voltage) that is input to a comparator. An output node voltage of the control circuit is fed back to the linear amplifier to be compared with the threshold voltage. While the output node voltage is less than the threshold voltage, a charge pump is coupled to the output node of the control circuit. After the output node voltage has toggled around the threshold voltage a number of times, the comparator output node is coupled to the output node of the control circuit and the charge pump is decoupled from the output node. When the output node voltage has discharged to be equal to the threshold voltage, control is handed off from the primary side controller to the secondary side controller.

Zeno phenomenon avoidance in power controller handoff

A soft start-up method is provided comprising: producing an initialization signal on a primary winding side of a transformer; using a comparison of the initialization signal with a signal having a value indicative of a current in the primary winding to control a switch operatively disposed between a voltage source and the primary side; transmitting the initialization signal over a galvanically isolating communication medium from the primary side to a secondary winding side of a transformer; at the secondary winding side, comparing a reference voltage signal with a secondary winding output voltage signal; in response to a match between the reference signal and the secondary winding output voltage signal, transmitting a comparison voltage signal over the galvanically isolating communication medium from the secondary side to the primary side; at the primary side, comparing the initialization signal with the transmitted comparison voltage signal; and in response to a match between the initialization signal the and the comparison voltage signal, using the transmitted comparator voltage signal to control the switch.

Apparatus and method for isolated current mode controller

A switched-mode power conversion circuit can include a switch control circuit including switch control outputs coupleable to switches included in a bridge network, the switches controllably coupling power input nodes to an isolation transformer according to switch states established by the switch control circuit. A current monitoring circuit can be coupled to the isolation transformer, the current monitoring circuit including an output indicative of a current flowing through a winding of the isolation transformer. A sampling circuit can be coupled to the output of the current monitoring circuit to obtain information indicative of a first current peak during a first sampling duration corresponding to a first current polarity established by the bridge network and a second current peak during a second sampling duration corresponding to an opposite second current polarity established by the bridge network.
