The present invention relates to subterranean cementing operations, and more particularly to an apparatus useful in loading cementing plugs and darts into tubulars, and methods of using such apparatus in subterranean cementing operations. An example of a method of the present invention is a method of placing a compressible object having a cross-section within a tubular, including the steps of: reducing the cross-section of the compressible object; placing the compressible object with the reduced cross-section in a tubular; and releasing the compressible object within the tubular. Another example of a method of the present invention is a method of reducing the radial cross-section of a compressible object. Other examples of apparatus of the present invention include apparatus for placing a compressible object into a tubular.

Methods and apparatus for use in subterranean cementing operations

A back pressure valve assembly for use in a well casing string. The valve assembly comprises a housing with a stationary and a floating plate therein. The floating plate is moveable between an open position spaced from the stationary plate and a closed position engaging the stationary plate. Fluid flow downwardly through the valve assembly tends to move the floating plate toward the open position, and fluid flow upwardly through the valve assembly tends to move the floating plate toward the closed position. A finger or key may be used to prevent rotation of the floating plate with respect to the housing.

Floating plate back pressure valve assembly

An apparatus for preventing or limiting the rotation of cementing plugs in a casing string during drillout. The apparatus includes an outer housing with a sleeve disposed therein. The sleeve has an inner surface configured to engage cementing plugs received therein to cause an interference fit. The sleeve will hold the cementing plugs when rotational forces, such as drilling forces, are applied so that during drillout, rotation of the cementing plug is prevented or is at least limited.

Anti-rotation method and apparatus for limiting rotation of cementing plugs

A float apparatus for use in a casing string. The float apparatus includes an outer case having a check valve positioned therein. A body portion which may be comprised of high compressive strength cement affixes the check valve to the outer case. The check valve includes a valve body and a valve element. The valve body defines a valve seat and the valve element is deformable so that it will conform to the shape of the valve seat and seal against flow in the casing.
