A method and system of enhancing facial or other body sites that are sagging, including incisionlessly inserting a lumen into a head or other areas of the body of a patient, the lumen having a first end configured to penetrate skin and a superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) of the patient, and having a first end with a suture attached thereto, a main control unit configured to translate, rotate, and flex the lumen, such that the lumen is steerable around an ear of the patient, and such that the suture remains under the skin of the face and passes through the SMAS, directing the lumen to exit the skin, detaching the lumen from the suture, and pulling taut the suture to elevate the SMAS.

Towing bars for joining towing vehicles to the front wheel axles of aircraft often include a pair of parallel bars having cylindrical bosses connected to the trailing ends of the bars and opposing one another. The bosses are intended to fit into sockets or bores in the opposing ends of the axle. With certain airplanes the bosses may not be long enough to clear the opposed sides of a nose wheel tire sufficiently so that their ends project into the axle openings. An adaptor to allow such towing bars to fit these aircraft includes a cylindrical rod of a diameter adapted to extend into the end bore of the axle joined at its opposite end to a coaxial, larger diameter cylindrical hub having a bore adapted to receive one of the tow bar bosses. The length of the adaptor hub is such that the tow bar arms clear the outer sides of the tire when the cylindrical rod ends are within the axle bores, allowing the nose wheel to freely rotate during towing and prevent damage to the tire.

Erosion of elements of the ossicular chain in the middle ear, resulting in hearing loss, is corrected by creating a bridge between the eroded elements, employing a bone cement formed as a paste of a self-hardening material, which is molded into an elongated bridge, secured at its two ends to the elements to be bridged, and supported in its desired position until the material hardens to fuse the two elements, at which time the support may be removed. The material is preferably hydroxyapatite cement, bone source, or similar material, such as ionomeric bone cement. These materials strongly bond to the contacting bone and may stimulate bone in-growth, resulting in osseointegration. The apparatus for forming the bridge consists of a reservoir of the bridge material in liquid or paste form connected to a bridge supporting tube. The tube is preferably placed in contact with the two elements to be bridged and the bone source material is injected into the tube using a manually actuated plunger until the tube is full. The tube is then supported, manually or otherwise, until the material hardens and the supporting tube is removed.

A method and apparatus for electrically stimulating the brain to alleviate tinnitus. In one aspect of the invention the areas of the brain to which stimulation is applied are determined by a procedure which first involves analysis of the patient to determine the nature of the sound perceived by the patient to produce tinnitus. These sound frequencies are then provided to the patient while imaging studies are made of the patient's brain. These studies may include magnetoencephalography (MEG) and/or functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). These studies are then analyzed to determine the locus of the tinnitus, and one or more electrodes are placed at the indicated region in the patient's brain and a stimulation device for outputting a varying control pattern of electrical signals to the electrodes is also implanted.
