A system and method for managing digital rights. The method includes receiving a Universal Resource Identifier (URI). The URI is used to identify a location for a user selected digital media item. The digital media item is to be played in a local area network (LAN). The selected digital media item is retrieved from a content server over a network connection. If the selected digital media item is encrypted, a license to decrypt the selected media item is obtained. Access to the license is based on a plurality of access rules. The plurality of access rules are based on the terms of the license. The plurality of access rules may also include personal owner rules. If a request for the license adheres to the access rules, the license is received via a secure out of band transfer and the selected digital media item is decrypted for playback via one or more media rendering devices.

System and method for distributing digital rights management digital content in a controlled network ensuring digital rights

A method and a system for classifying a packet are disclosed. In one embodiment, at least one source address is grouped in a source group and at least one destination address is grouped in a destination group. In addition, at least one source port, one destination port, and one protocol are grouped in a protocol group. After grouping process, at least one rule is fetched according to the source group, destination group, or protocol group. After identifying the rule, specific treatment for the packet during the network transmission is identified in response to the rule or rules.

Method for specifying TCP/IP packet classification parameters

A method and a system for establishing network tunnels are disclosed. In one embodiment, a transport action is identified in response to packet parameters. Once the transport action is determined, the transport action is pushed onto a pending stack. When a tunnel action is, subsequently, identified in response to the packet parameters, the tunnel action is also pushed onto the pending stack. Upon completion of rule evaluation, at least one tunnel is established according to a tunnel action stored in the pending stack. The action stored at the top of the pending stack is performed first and the action stored at the bottom of the pending stack is performed last.
