In open-circuit hydraulic systems (), the cross-sections of the supply lines () and input valves of the hydraulic pump () have to be large, so that sufficient flow flux can be provided. This hinders a reduction of the size of the pump and the whole hydraulic system. It is suggested that the supply flow () of a hydraulic pump () is charged by a second, charging pump (), to a mid-pressure level (). The cross-sections of the supply flow areas can thus be decreased.

Charged hydraulic system

A hydraulic power unit having a power shaft that rotates a cam. The cam actuates a piston assembly that contains a plurality of pistons wherein each piston has a piston body and fluid working chamber. An electrically actuated bypass valve is fluidly connected and in communication between an outlet check valve and a fluid working chamber of each piston such that when actuated the electrically actuated bypass valve directs fluid away from the outlet port into a reservoir to be returned to an inlet port.

A method of cooling a radiator in an internal combustion engine wherein a plurality of fan assemblies is provided. Specifically, each fan assembly has a housing with an interior containing a fan blade and an exterior having six sides to form a hexagonal perimeter. The fan assemblies are then arranged side by side to form a cluster of fan assemblies in order to maximize the amount of fan assemblies that may be provided on an enclosure. The cluster of fan assemblies is then placed adjacent to a radiator to control the air flow over the radiator in order to cool the engine.

A positive displacement piston unit is provided that utilizes a magnetorheological (MR) or electrorheological (ER) fluid as the transmission fluid. Each cylinder of the invention has an intake port connected to the suction port of the hydrostatic pump and an output port connected to the pressure port. Flow of the transmission fluid through the cylinder is controlled by an electromagnet or electrode located in close proximity to the intake and output ports of the cylinder. By energizing the electromagnet or electrode, the viscosity of the transmission fluid can be increased such that the portion of the fluid immediately near the electromagnet or electrode substantially solidifies. The solidified portion of the transmission fluid disables fluid through the particular passage, thereby restricting flow of the transmission fluid to the cylinder. As such, the present invention does not require the use of mechanical cylinder valves to control the flow of the transmission fluid.

An electro-hydraulic power unit is disclosed that includes a housing filled with hydraulic fluid. A hydraulic power unit is disposed within the housing, the power unit having a mechanical power shaft. Additionally, an electric machine is disposed within the housing adjacent to the hydraulic power unit, the electric machine having a rotor secured to the mechanical power shaft of the hydraulic power unit. Hydraulic fluid within the housing passes over the electric machine, thus cooling the electric machine and providing for improved efficiency and performance.

A loop flushing circuit in a closed circuit hydraulic system has a variable displacement hydraulic pump that is fluidly connected to a hydraulic motor. The flushing flow in the closed circuit is controlled by an electronically proportional flow control valve. The electronically proportional flow control valve is controlled by a control that ensures that the control valve being used is connected to a low pressure side of the closed loop flushing circuit.

A hydraulic cartridge valve is provided that is moveably received within a manifold in fluid communication with a hydraulic unit, such as that which drives heavy machinery. The present invention comprises a solenoid coil secured to and operatively connected to the hydraulic cartridge valve. In addition, a circuit board is secured to and in electronic communication with the solenoid coil. A controller area network is electronically connected to the circuit board such that a computer controls the operation of the solenoid coil, thereby controlling the performance of the hydraulic cartridge valve. The solenoid coil is secured to the cartridge valve by a securing nut and has a plurality of pins for directly mounting the coil to the circuit board.

A priority circuit is provided that is in communication with an open circuit pump and priority and auxiliary systems. The circuit comprises a first valve with an inlet in communication with the pump, an outlet in communication the priority system, and a load sensing inlet in communication with the priority system, wherein the first valve modulates to maintain a predetermined pressure differential between pressure at the load sensing inlet and pressure at the outlet. The circuit further comprises a second valve with an inlet in communication with the pump, an outlet in communication with the auxiliary system, and a load sensing inlet in communication with the priority system, wherein the second valve is normally closed and opens when pressure at the load sensing inlet of the second valve is less than pressure at the inlet of the second valve minus the predetermined pressure differential of the first valve.

The present invention is directed towards a hydraulic power unit including a housing, an internal hydraulic power means, an external hydraulic power means, and a mechanical power shaft associated with the hydraulic power means. In addition, the hydraulic power unit comprises a transducer adapted for measuring torque mounted in the housing in a non-contact relation to the mechanical power shaft adjacent a portion of the shaft imposed with a magnetic field. The hydraulic power unit further comprises a controller associated with the transducer to monitor the measured torque and adjust the operation of the hydraulic power unit accordingly.
