An edge connector socket is configured to receive an edge connector on a memory module. A wedge member is slidably secured within the edge connector socket in alignment between contacts on the edge connector and pins within the edge connector socket. A cam is rotatably secured adjacent the wedge member, and an actuator is coupled to the cam. Rotation of the cam moves the wedge member between a first position and a second position. In the first position, the wedge member is disposed between the contacts and the pins and prevents engagement between the contacts and the pins. In the second position, the wedge member is withdrawn from between the contacts and the pins and allows reengagement between the contacts and the pins. Optionally, such a 'reseat' action is performed in response to detecting an error associated with the memory module.

A closed loop liquid cooling system for electronic packages, the closed loop liquid cooling system including: a fan impeller configured so that air flows from the fan impeller through a radiator of the closed loop liquid cooling system; an electric motor coupled to the fan impeller, the electric motor configured to rotate the fan impeller; and a pump impeller configured for delivering liquid to the electronic package via a cold plate, the pump impeller mechanically coupled to the fan impeller such that rotating the fan impeller causes the pump impeller to rotate such that liquid is circulated in the closed loop liquid cooling system.

Two system boards may be connected by a blind plug connector assembly. The top system board supports a first connector and has a hole adjacent the first connector that secures a guide bracket. The blind plug connector assembly is selectively received in the guide bracket to position a proximal connector on the assembly for connecting to the first connector on the top system board and position a distal connector on the assembly for connecting to a second connector on the lower system board. A flexible wired connection extends within the assembly between the proximal connector and the distal connector, and may form a scalability cable. The interaction between the assembly and the guide bracket provide alignment of the connectors.

Vertical blindmate scaling of identical system boards

A system includes a chassis, first and second blade servers, and a scalability device. Each blade server is securable within the chassis and includes a scalability port, cam handle for selectively securing the blade server in the chassis, and handle latch for selectively latching the cam handle in a closed position, and lockout mechanism moveable into a position that blocks the handle latch in a latched position. The scalability device includes first and second scalability connectors, wherein positioning the scalability device so that the first scalability connector is coupled to a scalability port of the first blade server and the second scalability connector is coupled to a scalability port of the second blade server causes each lockout mechanism to move into the position that blocks the handle latches in the latched position. Accordingly, the scalability device must be removed before either of the blade servers can be removed.

Handle lockout mechanism for scaling blade-style servers

An apparatus comprises a housing that includes a first housing portion and a second housing portion coupled at a first end. The apparatus further comprises a bulkhead secured to a second end of the second housing portion, and a handle pivotally secured to a second end of the first housing portion. The bulkhead includes a distally extending pin and a spring latch. The handle has a hole that is sized and positioned to selectively receive the distally extending pin and allow the handle to close only with the first and second housing portions in a closed position. The handle also has a hook that is captured by the spring latch in response to the handle being closed. A torsion spring may be used to bias the handle to an open position where the handle can be easily grabbed when the handle has not been latched.

Latching cam handle assembly for securing mated circuit boards

A blade server comprises first and second housing portions. Each housing portion includes a cover securing a first printed circuit board assembly, two sides extending from the cover, a bezel portion secured along a proximal end of the cover between the two sides, a first hinge member formed near the proximal end of one side, and a second hinge member formed near the proximal end of the other side. The hinge members on the first housing portion are selectively engagable with the hinge members on the second housing portion to enable the housing portions to pivot between an open position and a closed position with the first and second printed circuit board assemblies disposed between the first and second housing portions.

A method of forming an assembly for tool-less backplane retention and insertion thereof into a housing including a housing mating device through which an installation path for an assembly is defined with a space in which a first part is positioned is provided. The method includes coupling a hub and a backplane body having opposing faces on which a second part and a backplane mating device are respectively disposed. The coupling includes inserting a backplane mating device protruding from one of the opposing faces of the backplane body through a hub mating device defined in the hub. The method further includes forcing a first stage of a two-stage mating device, which includes first and second elastically coupled stages and which extends from the hub, to elastically hook onto the backplane body during a near-completion of the insertion.

An apparatus is provided and includes a housing, including a housing mating device, through which an installation path for an assembly is defined with a space in which a first part is positioned, a backplane body having opposing faces on which a second part and a backplane mating device are respectively disposed, and a hub, in which a hub mating device is defined, and from which a two-stage mating device extends, the two-stage mating device including first and second elastically coupled stages. The hub and the backplane body are coupled to form the assembly and the assembly is installed/removed in/from the space with the second stage of the two-stage mating device elastically hooked by the housing mating device or released from the housing mating device and the first and second stages of the two-stage mating device biasing the hub and the backplane body to remain coupled.

Apparatus for securing or retaining a heatsink. The heatsink retention apparatus includes a heatsink module that cooperates with first and second spring loaded latches secure to a circuit board on opposing sides of a heat-generating component. The heatsink module includes a handle pivotally secured to opposing sides of the heatsink body, and bails pivotally secured to the handle. In addition, the bails extend downward to dispose a lower bail member adjacent the spring loaded latches. As the handle pivots between a first position to raise the bails and a second position to lower the bails, the bails automatically move from a locked position to an unlocked position. Each of the spring loaded latches include a hook and at least one pre-loaded spring to transfer a minimum downforce to the lower bail members when the bails are raised. Accordingly, embodiments may be operated from the top of the heatsink without the use of tools, while providing a desired downforce over a range of heatsink heights.

A retention module for a heat dissipation assembly is disclosed. In a first embodiment, the retention module may include a frame having an external member and an internal member enclosed within the external member. Furthermore, the internal member is adaptable to seat a heat sink. Additionally, a lever is coupled to the external member, wherein the lever includes a cam. When the lever engages in a first position, the cam pushes the internal member forward to engage the heat sink to a surface. Through the use of the retention module described above, a retention module may be used as a simple method to load and lock heat sinks of varying sizes within a heat dissipation assembly.

A heat sink retention assembly for retaining a heat sink in thermal contact with a CPU while transmitting load away from the CPU. The heat sink retention assembly includes a frame sized to receive the heat sink, the frame including opposing pin capture channels and a wire module. The wire module includes an upper handle section and a lower pivoting section. The wire module is pivotably coupled to the frame at the lower pivoting section. The wire module further includes opposing end pins, wherein each pin is moveably retained within and extends through a corresponding pin capture channel such that when the wire module is rotated with respect to the frame, the pins travel within their respective channels in order to engage the heat sink.
