The present invention relates to fluorinated and alkylated bile acids.

Fluorinated and alkylated bile acids

Several microfluidic chips are used to significantly accelerate the time to identify and quantify microbes in a biological sample and test them for antibiotic resistance, particularly for urinary tract infections. A first microfluidic chip uses antibody or similar probes to identify and quantify any microbes present. The same or a similar chip uses antibody or similar probes to identify microbes with DNA or RNA known to indicate antibiotic resistance. Another microfluidic chip tests for antibiotic susceptibility of any microbes by growing them in very small wells in the presence of antibiotics, reducing the time required for such testing by as much as 95%. Another microfluidic chip runs traditional urinalysis or similar tests.

This disclosure relates to deuterated bile acid compositions. A deuterated compound is selected from the bile acids such as ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) and tauroursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA), and their derivatives, analogs and salts. At least one of the hydrogen atoms in the compound is replaced with deuterium. Also disclosed are pharmaceutical compositions and methods of using the deuterated bile acids.

Compositions, implantation devices and methods for stimulating an immune response to infection are discussed. In some examples, the compositions, implantation devices or methods of regulating the amplification of an adaptive immune response to infection involves use of one or more particles locally at a surgical or implant site to control bacterial infections without detrimental systemic side-effects. In some examples, the particles can be coated or layered onto the surface of an implantable device or material. In other examples, the particles can be injected into the site of implantation.
