Apparatus and method provides for an improved steering system for an articulated vibratory roller machine. Steering can be accomplished without the use of a dedicated steering actuator. Instead, steering angles may be created by independently driving left and right side drum halves at the front and rear ends of the machine at different speeds and/or directions. This differential action creates the desired steering angle by rotating the front and back halves of the machine about a central articulated joint. As a result, a cost-effective and versatile solution that eliminates the need for conventional steering components and their associated disadvantages is provided.

A control module for a walk behind trowel configured to detect and to prevent an uncontrolled or undesirable motion of the trowel. The trowel includes an engine configured to drive rotation of a rotor. The control module includes a gyroscope and a controller. The gyroscope is configured to provide an electrical signal representative of an angular rate of motion of a reference structure on the walk behind trowel. The controller is configured to receive the electrical signal from the gyroscope and to determine when a change in the angular rate of motion of the trowel exceeds a threshold value, and in response, to prevent the engine from driving the rotor to rotate.

An electric current generation device includes a rotatable rotor including a magnet assembly establishing a magnetic field proximate the rotor. A stator includes at least one set of coils disposed with respect to the rotor so that rotation of the rotor moves the magnetic field with respect to the coils of the coil set to generate electric current flow in the coil set. The coil set includes an impedance component in communication with the electric current flow to limit the rate of increase of electric current flow generated by the coil set as the rotational speed of the rotor increases. The winding direction of at least one coil with respect to the magnetic field may be opposite the winding direction of the other coils with respect to the magnetic field. Two coil sets may be provided wherein the coils of a first coil set are wound so that the output of the first coil set is out of phase with respect of the output of a second coil set. A rectifier mechanism in operative communication with the first coil set and the second coil set rectifies and combines the output of the first coil set and the output of the second coil set.

A method and apparatus are provided for measurement of absolute position of a moveable machine member wherein output signals of a plurality of position measuring devices are selectively connected to an interface circuit. Each position measuring device produces output signals representing relative position of a device armature and device stator. The position measuring devices are coupled to the machine member so that the absolute position of the machine member anywhere within its range of motion may be uniquely determined from the output signals. A control signal is produce to control the selection of the output signals to be connected to the interface circuit which, at any instant, receives the output signals of a single position measuring device.

A miniature electronic device, an example of which being an electronic watch, includes a printed circuit board which is mounted in a case and which has an aperture. A battery extends into the aperture forming a substantially coplanar assembly of exceptionally small thickness. The printed circuit board also features the use of circuit paths disposed on the peripheral edge to connect selected circuit paths which are disposed on upper and lower surface of the printed circuit board. An alternative embodiment of the printed circuit board features the use of a digit drives chip mounted directly on top of an integrated circuit watch clip with wire bonds leading from selected pads on the digit drives chip to selected pads on the integrated circuit watch chip and to selected circuit paths on the printed circuit board.
