An epoxy resin composition comprises the cured reaction product of an epoxy base resin and a curing agent mixture. The curing agent mixture comprises an amino curative and a polyoxyalkylene polycarbonate. Liquid epoxy base resins cured with polyoxyalkyleneamines in the presence of polyoxyalkylene polycarbonates were harder and displayed improved tensile modulus, flexural strength and flexural modulus.

This invention discloses the composition and preparation of imidazolidone modified polyetheramines. The alkyl polyetheramine is derived from 2-isopropylaminoethylamine and urea. N-isopropyl-2-imidazolidone is the intermediate product, which is alkoxylated and aminated to prepare the N-isopropyl imidazolidone polyetheramine. This invention also discloses the composition and preparation of oxazolidinone modified polyetheramines by reductive amination of polyols derived from 4-ethyl-4-hydroxymethyl-2-oxazolidone. The products of this invention have been tested in epoxy resin applications and improved properties have been demonstrated. These products may also be useful in polyurea applications.

A method for removing organic halide contaminants from alkylene carbonates is disclosed. Organic halide contaminants are removed from alkylene carbonates by contacting the contaminated alkylene carbonate with hydrotalcite.

An amido alkanolamine composition obtained by reacting, at a temperature of 10.degree. C.-200.degree. C.: (a) a 4-alkyl-2-morpholinone represented by the formula: ##STR1## in which R represents a monovalent aliphatic radical having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms; and (b) a hydrocarbyl oxypolyoxyalkylene amine represented by the formula ##STR2## in which R' represents an alkyl, an alicyclic or an alkyl-alicyclic radical having from 12 to 30 carbon atoms or ##STR3## wherein R' represents a hydrocarbyl radical having from 4 to 30 carbon atoms, x has a value of from about 5 to 50, and R'' is an ethyl radical or a mixture of methyl and ethyl radicals.

Fuel composition

Highly saturated, highly aminated alkoxylated polymers may be reliably made by an improved process involving the steps of (1) polymerizing one or more unsaturated hydrocarbons to form a liquid polymer, where at least one of the unsaturated hydrocarbons is butadiene; (2) providing the liquid polymer with terminal hydroxyl groups; (3) alkoxylating the hydroxylated liquid polymer with one or more alkylene oxides having at least three carbon atoms to provide secondary terminal hydroxyl groups; (4) simultaneously aminating and hydrogenating the alkoxylated liquid polymer to produce an essentially saturated, aminated, alkoxylated liquid polymer in the presence of hydrogen and ammonia and a catalyst. The catalyst preferably contains nickel as the single greatest component, with smaller amounts of copper, chromium and molybdenum. Excesses of hydrogen and ammonia are used in the final step.

Saturated, aminated, alkoxylated polybutadienes

The removal of basic alkaline earth metal catalysts from alcohol alkoxylate product streams using acid days wetted with water is described. The catalyst level may be reduced to 1 ppm or less in many instances. Effective acid days include, but are not limited to silica days, silica magnesia clays, alumina, montmorillonite days, mixtures thereof and the like. Contacting of the day with the alcohol alkoxylate may take place at ambient to 120.degree. C.

This invention is concerned with a soil stabilization process in which soil particles comprising the soil surfaces to be stabilized are contacted or treated with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal silicate, such as sodium silicate, and a carbonate reactant or gelling agent selected from the group consisting of an alkylene carbonate, such as ethylene carbonate, a polyester polycarbonate and mixtures thereof. This invention also relates to soil stabilized by admixture with (1) an aqueous solution of an alkali metal silicate and (2) the carbonate reactant.

Disclosed is a novel polyetherdiamine comprising an aminated, alkoxylated 1,2'-hydroxyethyl-2-imidazolidone represented by the formula: ##STR1## where R is H or an alkyl group of from 1 to 16 carbon atoms, R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and lower alkyl radicals having about 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and a+b=n, wherein n is a number of from about 2 to 80, prepared by reacting urea or certain carbonates with an aminoalkoxylamine, alkoxylating the product with alkylene oxide to form a polyol which is reductively aminated to form a novel polyetherdiamine containing an imidazolidone (cyclic urea).

The present invention provides a novel class of compounds, useful as gasoline detergent additives, which is a polyether hydroxyethylaminoethyl oxalamide represented by the formula ##STR1## where R is a (C.sub.5 -C.sub.25) alkyl group and n is an integer between about 5 and about 20.

A process for preparing a polyurea reaction injection molded (RIM) elastomer is described. A hindered polyetherpolyamine is first obtained by reacting a polyol having two or more hydroxyl groups with an effective amount of long chain alkyl epoxide to give an at least partially hindered intermediate having hydroxyl terminations; and then aminating at least one of the hydroxyl terminations on the intermediate to primary amine groups to give an at least partially hindered polyetherpolyamine. The hindered polyetherpolyamine is then reacted with a polyisocyanate in the optional presence of a catalyst to give a polyurea RIM elastomer. The long chain alkyl group provides steric hindrance to the primary aliphatic amine group, which slows down the reactivity of the amine. The slower reactivity of the amine group is useful in RIM and RRIM compositions since it allows for longer shot or flow times, which in turn permit larger parts to be made from existing equipment.
