An emulsion polymerization process for the production of fluoroelastomers is disclosed wherein at least one fluorosurfactant is employed as dispersant, said fluorosurfactant being a fluoroalkylphosphoric acid ester of the formula X&#x2014;Rf-(CH)&#x2014;O&#x2014;P(O)(OM), wherein n=1 or 2, X=H or F, M=a univalent cation, and Rf is a C-Cfluoroalkyl or fluoroalkoxy group. Optionally, a second dispersing agent may be employed in the polymerization, said second agent being a perfluoropolyether having at least one endgroup selected from the group consisting of carboxylic acid, a salt thereof, sulfonic acid and a salt thereof, phosphoric acid and a salt thereof.

Process for producing fluoroelastomers

An emulsion polymerization process for the production of non-elastomeric fluoropolymers is disclosed wherein at least one fluorosurfactant is employed as dispersant, said fluorosurfactant being a fluoroalkylphosphoric acid ester of the formula X-Rf-(CH)&#x2014;O&#x2014;P(O)(OM), wherein n is 1 or 2, X&#x2550;H or F, M=a univalent cation, and Rf is a C-Cfluoroalkyl or fluoroalkoxy group. Optionally, a second dispersing agent may be employed in the polymerization, said second agent being a perfluoropolyether having at least one endgroup selected from the group consisting of carboxylic acid, a salt thereof, sulfonic acid and a salt thereof, phosphoric acid and a salt thereof.

Process for producing fluoropolymers

An emulsion polymerization process for the production of fluoropolymers is disclosed wherein a combination of at least two fluorosurfactants is employed as dispersants. At least one fluorosurfactant is a perfluoroalkyl or perfluoroalkoxy sulfinate. At least one other fluorosurfactant is a perfluoropolyether having at least one endgroup selected from the group consisting of carboxylic acid, a slat thereof, sulfonic acid and a salt thereof.

Perfluoroelastomers that contain high levels (i.e. about 40 mole percent or more) of perfluoro(alkyl vinyl ether) copolymerized units can form stable blends with higher levels of perfluoropolyethers than can perfluoroelastomers that contain lower levels of perfluoro(alkyl vinyl ether) units. Thus, the former blends have better low temperature properties than the latter.

Perfluoroelastomer compositions for low temperature applications

Fast curing perfluoroelastomer compositions are provided which comprise a perfluoroelastomer having a plurality of nitrile groups and a plurality of carboxyl-containing groups, carboxylate-containing groups, carboxamide groups, or mixtures thereof; and an organotin curing agent.

Fast-curing perfluoroelastomer composition

A film having a porous core layer and nonporous outer layers is made from a composition of certain polymers, particularly ethylene polymers, a particulate filler which has little affinity for the polymer, and optionally an organic compound which decreases the tendency for affinity of the particulate for the polymer. The film is produced by extruding the composition through a die gap of at least 250 .mu.m, and subsequently stretching the film after cooling to a temperature below the melting temperature of the polymer.

Process for making a heterogeneous membrane film

A film having a porous core layer and nonporous outer layers is disclosed. It is suitable for controlled atmosphere packaging end uses. The film is made from a composition of certain polymers, particularly ethylene polymers, a particulate filler which has little affinity for the polymer, and optionally an organic compound which decreases the tendency for affinity of the particulate for the polymer. The film is produced by extruding the composition through a die gap of at least 250 .mu.m, and subsequently stretching the film after cooling to a temperature below the melting temperature of the polymer.

Articles having wood-like properties and appearance are obtained from compositions comprising 5-55% by weight of an ethylene interpolymer, such as ethylene/vinyl ester, ethylene/unsaturated mono- or dicarboxylic acids or esters or salts of said unsaturated acids, etc.; 1-15% by weight of at least one plasticizer selected from the group consisting of processing oils, epoxidized oils, polyesters, polyethers and polyetheresters; 20-90% by weight of cellulosic filler or mixture of cellulosic filler and mineral filler; 0-10% by weight of at least one additive, such as organic acid, organic acid derivative and surface active agent; and 0-44% by weight of certain ethylene and propylene homo- and copolymers.

Articles having leather-like appearance are obtained from compositions comprising 5-55% by weight of an ethylene interpolymer, such as ethylene/vinyl ester, ethylene/unsaturated mono- or dicarboxylic acids or esters of said unsaturated acids, ethylene/.alpha.-olefin copolymers, etc.; 1-15% by weight of at least one plasticizer selected from the group consisting of processing oils, epoxidized oils polyesters, polyethers and polyetheresters; 20-90% by weight of cellulosic filler or mixture of cellulosic filler and mineral filler; 0-10% by weight of at least one additive, such as organic acid, organic acid derivative and surface active agent; and 0-27.5% by weight of elastomeric polymer.

Leather-like articles made from cellulosic filler loaded ethylene

Filled thermoplastic compositions useful, e.g., as sound-deadening sheeting for automotive carpet are obtained by blending about 5-55% by weight of an ethylene interpolymer, such as ethylene/vinyl ester, ethylene/unsaturated mono- or dicarboxylic acids or esters of said unsaturated acids, etc.; about 1-15% by weight of a plasticizer selected from the group consisting of polyesters, polyethers, polyether esters and combinations thereof with processing oil; about 40-90% by weight of filler; and optionally modifying resins, such as unvulcanized elastomeric polymers and certain other ethylene and propylene homo- and copolymers.
