A method of operation of a provider controlling platform system includes: determining a provider criterion for selecting a service provider; determining a device capability for selecting a device service for a peripheral device; generating a selection threshold based on the provider criterion, the device capability, or a combination thereof for executing the device service; and generating a service command based on the selection threshold meeting or exceeding a service request for commanding the peripheral device to execute the device service.

Platform system with provider controlling mechanism and method of operation thereof

A system and method are provided for processing a document. The method comprises: marking an area of a document, using at least one predetermined markup symbol; identifying a markup symbol; using the identified markup symbol to locate the document area; determining characters in the document area; and, processing the determined characters. Fields that can be processed include title, keywords, author, signature, document name, category, subject, or document status, to name but a few examples. In some aspects, marking an area of a document, using at least one predetermined markup symbol includes: electronically marking using a medium such as a touchscreen, pressure pad, or a mouse. Alternately, the paper document can be physically marked (with a pen or pencil) before scanning. Typically, marking an area of a document includes forming a markup character proximate to an enclosing figure. A wide range of markup characters can be defined cross-referenced to document processes.

A stateless-object method is provided for executing instructions. The method: establishes a central repository of states, cross-referencing state locations in memory, to identifiers; calls a first method; accesses a stateless-object in response to the first method, the stateless-object including an identifier and a second method; reads the identifier; uses the identifier to cross-reference the stateless-object's state location in the repository; accesses the located state; and, instantiates the second method in response to accessing the state. The central repository of states may cross-reference a first state to a first identifier, and the step of accessing the stateless-object includes accessing a plurality of stateless-objects in response to the first method, with each of the stateless-objects including the first identifier. Then, the step of locating the state of the stateless-object using the identifier includes locating the first state for each of the plurality of stateless-objects by using the first identifier.

The present invention is directed to a network in which a potential user may be notified of the presence of at least one intelligent peripheral device and, upon the potential user's request, his workstation may be configured to use the selected intelligent peripheral device. The present invention is also directed to an installation method for notifying at least one potential user of the availability of at least one intelligent peripheral device and, if requested, configuring potential users' workstations to use the requested intelligent peripheral device. In one preferred embodiment, the method includes the steps of sending an announcement to at least one potential user, receiving a response to the announcement from the potential user, and configuring the potential user's workstation to use the intelligent peripheral device.

A method and apparatus for flexible control of the routing and processing of documents by a document receiver. Document classifications are defined by a receiver and stored on a registration server together with an associated document processing profile ('DPP'). The receiver communicates to a sender how to access his account on the registration server. The sender views the receiver's document classifications, selects one, and prints a cover page, which includes a document classification identifier. The sender scans the cover page and a source document with a digital scanner and transceiver. The document is sent to recipients and transformed according to the DPP.
