A process for improving storage stability and solubility of a laundry detergent powder includes the steps of: (a) forming a builder agglomerate which is free of sodium carbonate and (b) adding the builder agglomerate to a laundry detergent powder composition. The builder agglomerate is present in an amount in a range of from about 14% to about 21% by weight of the laundry detergent powder composition. The builder agglomerate has a composition including an aluminosilicate ion exchange and a binder selected from the group consisting of surfactants, polyethylene glycol, polyacrylates, and mixtures thereof. The builder agglomerate also includes sodium diethylenetriaminepentaacetate (DTPA) and balance water but the builder agglomerate is free of sodium carbonate.

Builder agglomerates for laundry detergent powders

A process for making detergent agglomerates in which a high active surfactant paste containing mid-chain branched alkyl sulfate surfactant and a detergent builder are agglomerated together is disclosed. The process entails maintaining the high active surfactant paste in highly stable, pumpable and transportable form over an extended period of time. In this way the process facilitates multi-locational, large-scale manufacture of modern compact detergent products. In particular, the high active surfactant paste can be manufactured in one facility, and thereafter, stored and transported to a remote facility for further processing in to the finished detergent agglomerates.

Detergent-making process using a high active surfactant paste containing mid-chain branched surfactants

A package for a granular material, such as a laundry detergent, is provided. The package includes a closed bottom container for storing the granular material and an opening through which the granular material can be viewed. A radiant structure, such as a paperboard liner, is disposed within at least a portion of the container. The radiant structure has a radiant structure characteristic, such as the spectrophotometric curve of the radiant structure. The radiant structure characteristic is selected to produce a predetermined shift of a radiant material characteristic of the granular material, such as a shift in the spectrophotometric curve of the granular material.
