A system comprising an accelerator including a first physical port couplable to a first module and a second physical port configured to communicate with a wide-area network. The accelerator is programmed to receive outbound data from user devices via the first module, and route the outbound data to either the first physical port or the second physical port. The first module is a separate unit from the accelerator. The first module includes an indoor unit configured for satellite internet.

Hybrid satellite internet access

An accelerator and system to provide a combined transport Wide-Area Network (WAN) transports. The accelerator includes a tunnel manager to maintain tunnels traversing each of the WAN transports; an inspector to perform packet and IP flow classification to set a respective classification metric for a downstream packet to be sent over the combined transport; a transport selector to select a preferred tunnel from the tunnels based on the respective classification metric of the downstream packet; and a sender to send the downstream packet over the preferred tunnel. In the accelerator, the WAN transports include a high latency satellite transport and a low latency transport, and a respective tunnel connects the accelerator to a peer accelerator via one of the WAN transports. The accelerator includes a receiver to receive upstream packets arriving over the combined transport and to forward the upstream packets to a user equipment.

Accelerating satellite access with low latency diversity transport

The present teachings disclose implementations of a UE and a method for providing a Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) network, the method including: receiving an NB-IoT downlink over a forward link; obtaining MAC configuration parameters, a transmit-timing offset and a transmit-frequency offset; pre-adjusting, to align with a return link timing and a return link frequency, a transmit-timing with the transmit-timing offset and a transmit-frequency with the transmit-frequency offset; requesting, based on the MAC configuration parameters and after the pre-adjusting, a connection with a Random-Access Preamble (RAR) over an NB-IoT uplink via the return link; and establishing the connection upon receiving a Random-Access Response (RAR), where a Round Trip-Time (RTT) from a transmitting antenna to a receiving antenna is greater than 67 microseconds (us), and both the NB-IoT downlink and the NB-IoT uplink use a mostly unchanged NB-IoT standard waveform. The NB-IoT service may be relayed by a satellite, for example, a geosynchronous earth orbit satellite. Further corrections to the timing and frequency may be performed on the connection. A cell or beam selection may be based on an NB-IoT system type, including NB-IoT over satellite, indicated in a Master Information Block.

Satellite operation of narrowband internet of things radio protocol
