2-Azido-2,2-difluoroethanol is useful in the preparation of energetic placizers for explosives and propellants. Ethyl 2-bromo-2,2-difluoroacetate reacts with sodium azide to produce ethyl 2-azido-2,2-difluoroacetate which then reacts with sodium borohydride in water to produce the 2-azido-2,2-difluoroethanol.

5,7-Dinitro-5,7-diaza-1,3-dioxabicyclo[3:3:0] octan-2-one is an explosive ich is comparable in energy (detonation pressure) to RDX but which has an impact sensitivity comparable to TNT. It is prepared by condensing one mole of methylenedinitramine with one mole of 4,5-dichloro-1,3-dioxolan-2-one.

5-carboxy-1,3-diamino-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene (DATBA), ##STR1## which is prepared by reacting 5-fluoro-1,3-diamino-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene with cyanotrimethylsilane to form 5-cyano-1,3-diamino-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene which is then hydrolyzed with a strong acid to form the DATBA.
