An audio communications device adapter connects a plurality of audio communications devices, such as headsets, to digital data paths, such as T1 or E1 data paths in a telephony system. The adapter comprises one or more analog audio signal connectors that connect to analog audio signal paths coupled to the audio communications devices for receiving and transmitting outgoing and incoming analog audio signals. The adapter also includes a digital data connector for connecting to digital data paths to transmit and receive outgoing and incoming digital data streams containing digital encoded audio signal data. A digital data formatter coupled to the digital data connector extracts the incoming digital encoded audio signal data from the incoming digital data stream and formats the outgoing digital encoded audio signal data. The digital data formatter includes a T1 framer and interface, serial PROMs for programming the T1 framer and interface, timing and control circuits, and a T1 transmit equalizer. An audio signal converter coupled to the analog audio signal connector and to the digital data formatter converts the outgoing analog audio signals into the outgoing digital encoded audio signal data and converts the incoming digital encoded audio signal data into the incoming analog audio signals. The audio signal converter includes a plurality of codec circuits.

Audio communications device adapter

A apparatus and method of interconnecting printed circuit boards in an electronic system inside a card cage. The apparatus includes a companion printed circuit board that connects to the main printed circuit board through a first electrical connector, the companion card providing at least one electrical path to a second connector. This second connector connects to the back plane of the card cage, with the back plane providing at least one electrical connection from the second connector to another electrical connector which connects to another companion card connected to the back plane. This method of interconnection avoids requiring flexible cable interconnections, thereby providing a cleaner layout of the electronic system, allowing easy insertion and removal of the main printed circuit boards as well as the companion cards, and providing excellent noise shielding.

Electronic assembly interconnection system

A multi-path digital signal processor for use in a telephony system provides a first data path for interfacing to a local area network, a second data path for interfacing to a Versa-bus Modular Eurocard (VME) bus, and at least one third data path for interfacing to at least one pulse code modulation digital signal path. The Digital Signal Processor may transmit and receive data by any or all of these means to allow efficient data transfer and processing by the Digital Signal Processor in a telephony system.

Multi-path bus digital processor

A multi-path digital signal processor for use in a telephony system provides a first data path for interfacing to a local area network, a second data path for interfacing to an industry standard computer backplane bus, and at least one third data path for interfacing to at least one time division multiplexed digital signal path. The Digital Signal Processor may transmit and receive data by any or all of these means to allow efficient data transfer and processing by the Digital Signal Processor in a telephony system.
