A battery-operated motorized roller shade that can be charged through an installation bracket. The roller shade comprises a roller tube, a motor and at least one battery disposed within the roller tube, and a motor head disposed at a terminal end of the roller tube having a motor head interface. The installation bracket comprises an installation bracket interface and an exterior wall comprising an installation bracket connector adapted to removably connect to and electrically interface with a power adapter. The motor head is adapted to removably attach to the installation bracket wherein the installation bracket provides electrical power to the at least one battery within the roller tube when the installation bracket is connected to the power adapter.

Systems, methods, and modes for commissioning of a building control system comprising at least one controller and a plurality of electronic devices installed in a building and comprising at least one light source adapted to illuminate light of a plurality of colors. The at least one controller is adapted to iteratively divide a selected number of the plurality of electronic devices into groups of electronic devices and command each group of electronic devices to illuminate a different color, receive an identification of an illuminated color of an electronic device to be commissioned, and select electronic devices belonging to a group commanded to illuminate a color that matches the identified illuminated color until the electronic device to be commissioned is identified.

A roller shade comprising a motor pretensioned counterbalancing spring that lowers the torque load on the motor of the roller shade throughout the rolling up or rolling down cycles. The roller shade comprises a motor drive unit including a motor adapted to drive a drive wheel through a clutch. The motor drive unit further comprises a first spring carrier adapted to be stationary during operation of the motor and a second spring carrier adapted to rotate during operation of the motor. The motor drive unit further comprises a counterbalancing spring connected at its first end to the first spring carrier and at its second end to the second spring carrier. The counterbalancing spring is pretensioned using the motor prior to inserting the motor drive unit into the roller tube by driving the drive wheel and thereby rotating the second end of the counterbalancing spring with respect to the first end of the counterbalancing spring. The clutch translates rotational motion from the motor to the drive wheel, but locks rotational motion from the drive wheel thereby locking the pretension in the counterbalancing spring.

A motorized shade for covering an architectural opening comprising a roller tube and a shade material comprising an upper end attached to the roller tube and a lower end. The shade material at least partially comprises electrically conductive material and the roller tube comprises an electrically conductive material that creates an electrically conductive path between the conductive material of the shade material and the roller tube. The motorized shade further comprises a capacitive touch sensor electrically connected to the roller tube via at least one electrical contact, and a controller electrically connected to the capacitive touch sensor and adapted to detect a touch of the shade material via the capacitive touch sensor and in response generate a command.

The motorized shade comprises a controller adapted to drive the motor phase according to a startup sequence by ramping up amplitude form an initial amplitude to a startup amplitude and ramping up frequency from an initial frequency to a drive frequency, drive the motor phase according to a full drive sequence to move the shade material by driving the motor phase according to a sinusoidal waveform at a set maximum amplitude and at a drive frequency, and drive the motor phase according to a wind down sequence by reducing frequency from the drive frequency to an end frequency and reducing the amplitude from the maximum amplitude to an end amplitude.

The spring carrier comprises a cylindrical barrel, wherein one of the first and second ends of the spring is concentrically positioned over the cylindrical barrel of the spring carrier. The spring fastener comprising a body having a curved bottom surface adapted to be positioned over one of the first and second ends of the spring and attached to the cylindrical barrel of the spring carrier.

Battery operated shade comprising a shade material operably connected at its top end to a motor drive unit that raises and lowers the shade material between an upper limit and a lower limit to adjustably cover a structural opening. The shade comprises a housing that at least partially conceals the motor drive unit. The shade further comprises a battery compartment for providing power to the motor drive unit and a pair of swing arms each pivotally connected at their proximal end to the shade housing and at their distal end to the battery compartment. The pair of swing arm are adapted to pivot with respect to the shade housing to swivel the battery compartment from a first position, where the battery compartment is at least partially concealed by the shade housing and the pair of swing arms are retained by a pair of retaining clips, to a second position where the battery compartment extends out of the shade housing.

A motorized shade comprising a roller tube, a shade material connected to the roller tube, and a motor drive unit operably connected to the roller tube. The motor drive unit comprises a motor adapted to create torque to rotate the roller tube to lower or raise the shade material and a force sensor positioned at a point along the motor drive unit that resists the torque created by the motor resulting in a reaction force that is detected by the force sensor. The motor drive unit further comprises a motor control module adapted to receive sensor readings from the force sensor and control the motor in response to detecting an abrupt change in the reaction force using the received sensor readings to enable shade control via pulling of the shade material as well as or alternatively obstacle detection to minimize damage to the roller shade and users.

A roller shade adapted to be installed in a non-rectangular structural opening comprising a roller tube, a shade material, a hem bar, and a pair of longitudinal side channels. The hem bar may be extendable and may comprise a pair of wheels at its opposite terminal ends. Each wheel is adapted to be retained by and travel within one of the longitudinal channels which are adapted to guide the hem bar assembly along the side jambs and control an extension of the extendable hem bar as the shade material is rolled on or unrolled from the roller tube and the distance between the side jambs changes. The roller shade may further comprise a pair of tension modules adapted to be attached to the hem bar proximate to one of the wheels to provide tension on the hem bar assembly.

The motor head locking member is adapted to removably attach to the installation bracket locking member by aligning the locking tab of the motor head locking member adjacent to the locking arm of the installation bracket locking member and rotating the roller tube until the locking tab is locked by the at least one locking arm and the contact pin comes into electrical contact with the at least one contact pad.
