A process container includes flanges defining a plurality of slots. At least one of the flanges includes a tightener configured to contact a disc or wafer when the disc or wafer is inserted into one of the plurality of slots defined by said at least one of the plurality of flanges. The tightener projects outwards from said at least one of the plurality of flanges into said one of the plurality of slots. The tightener includes a tapered portion where a cross-sectional thickness of the at least one tightener increases along an insertion direction of the disc or wafer into said one of the plurality of slots. The tightener can include one continuous slope or curve. The tightener can include a chamfer. The tightener has a reduced contact area and a smooth transition as it extends from the flange, reducing rubbing and the corresponding particle shedding when discs or wafers are inserted into, removed from, or moving while stored within the process container.

Purge diffusers for use in systems for transporting substrates include: i) a purge diffuser core having an internal purge gas channel, one or more diffuser ports and an outer surface; ii) filter media secured to the outer surface of the purge diffuser core; and iii) a purge port connector for mounting the purge diffuser to a purge port of a substrate container for transporting substrates. The purge diffuser core may be a unitary article, may be formed by injection molding, and may include diverters internal to the internal purge gas channel.

Environmental control material holders can retain environmental control material within wafer carriers, allowing the environmental control material to protect wafers from moisture while also securing the environmental control material. The environmental control material holders may include a baseplate and tabs defining spaces to hold environmental control material, and can be configured to engage a handle of a wafer cassette. The environmental control material holders may retain one or more environmental control materials. Additionally, the environmental control material holders can be configured to also retain a humidity indicator.

A carrier for transporting silicon semiconductor wafers during semiconductor wafer processing operations including an enclosure, a door and a flange structured to interface with a machine so that the carrier can be lifted by the machine. A lift saddle connects the flange to the container so that the load on the flange is transferred to a part of the enclosure other than the top of the enclosure to prevent distortion of the enclosure to maintaining seal integrity between the enclosure and the door.

Substrate carrier

The invention relates to transport and shipping containers for wafers that are processed into semiconductor units. The wafer transport system provides wafer carriers that provide damage protection and particulate protection with minimal contamination of the wafers in the shipper. The invention includes a wafer cushion for cushioning semiconductor wafers that is made of a closed-cell polyethylene material with a surface resistivity of less than 5&#xd7;10ohms per square that has less than 1800 ng/g Cl, 400 ng/g F/Acetate, 270 ng/g NO, 350 ng/g SO, and 60 ng/g POions leachable under moderate conditions. The wafer cushion optimally has no detectable outgassing organics under stringent conditions. The static control properties are the result of carbon that is part of the structure of the material.

A protective shipper comprises a cover and a base that are held together by a latching member. The base is configurable to retain and protect semiconductor wafers or film frames with wafers within a storage pocket. The base comprises latching member and a support wall that defines a storage pocket. The cover encloses the storage pocket. One or both of the cover may receive recesses for gripability. The cover may receive one or more latching apertures configured to minimize unintended unlatching. The shipper of the present invention may be manufactured in a mold capable of producing film frame or wafer containing configurations of the shipper by using an interchangeable mold insert.

Protective shipper

A wafer container has an open front defined by a frame for receiving a door. The frame has slots on opposite sides. The door utilizes two latching linkages that extend, lift, lower and retract two latching portions from the edge portion of each opposite side of the door and into and out of latch receptacles on the frame. Each latching mechanism utilizes a sliding plate with a handle connected thereto and exposed on the front of the door. The sliding plate has a pair of lifting linkages cooperating with a pair of latching linkages. Moving the handles outwardly extends the latching portions into the latching receptacles, then pulls the door inwardly to seal the door to the container portion. The sliding plate includes a rack portion engaged with a pinion accessible from the front of the door by a latch key whereby the mechanism can be operated robotically.

An interlockable film frame carrier has central and peripheral portions for securely storing a film frame, the film frame supporting a film, a semiconductor wafer disposed on the film. The central portion has structure for supporting the semiconductor wafer and for allowing access to a lower surface of the stored film frame. The peripheral portion of the film frame carrier includes structure for supporting a peripheral portion of the film frame and matable stacking members. When the film frame is stored, two film frame carriers are interlocked by mating the stacking members. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract that will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure. 300MM single stackable film frame carrier

A wafer container having a container portion with an open front for receiving and removal of wafers includes a door with a cushion system that utilizes a unique wafer restraint system and structural features to provide maximum protection for the wafers and preventing rotation of said wafers. A feature of the door is that the front of the door covers have a pair of latch cavities on the outwardly facing side of the door. The latch cavities for receiving two latch mechanisms with latch members that extend out the upper and lower peripheral edge of the door. The latch mechanisms are covered by a pair of door panels that utilize hooks that attach to the peripheral edge of the door and further attach with posts near the vertical midsection. The latch cover at the peripheral side edge and at the vertical midsection of the door provides stiffness and resistance to bending of the door. In a preferred embodiment, the attachment of the door panel at the peripheral edge utilizes hook members on the door panel that extend through slots on the peripheral side. Press fit connectors and aperture combinations are preferably utilized to connect the edge of the latch panel approximate the mid-portion of the door.

Wafer container cushion system

A wafer shipper for stacked wafers provides significantly improved resistance to shock and impact as well as flexibility and tolerance in wafer capacities and guidance in optimal amount of packing material. The shipper has a base and a top cover both of which have a nominal wall that primarily forms all of the features of the respective components. The base has four sides, four corners, and arcuate wall segments defining a wafer stack pocket. The sides are formed of a downwardly extending nominal wall portion and an upwardly extending lip. Both adjoin a nominal wall defining a planar surface that extends around the base and forms a seat for the top cover. The planar surface adjoins the arcuate wall segments and also adjoins the floor of the wafer stack pocket that is also part of the nominal wall. Impact forces that are received on the corners and/or sides of the top cover are transferred to the base through the top cover to upright portions on the opposite side of the base from where the impact occurs providing a significant improvement in the robustness of the container as well as significant improvement in the protection provided to the wafers, as well as much better resistance to unlatching upon such impact. The invention further includes a mold for a wafer carrier utilizing separate inserts for converting from a first size pocket to a second size pocket. Suitably sized blanks may be inserted in said slots when the mold is to be used for the first size wafer carrier and the blanks may be removed when the mold is utilized for the second size.

Shock resistant variable load tolerant wafer shipper

A low tolerance build-up wafer carrier and method for assembling the same for supporting semiconductor wafer disks and for interfacing with processing equipment. Press-fit fasteners are used to assemble composite carriers and attach equipment interface portions to the carrier. Each press-fit fastener comprising a first fastener portion integral with a first element and a second fastener portion integral with a second element. The first and second fastener portions interferingly engaging each other when pressed together thereby connecting first and second elements without significant tolerance build-up. A further embodiment of the invention is to provide a wafer carrier having interface contact portions positioned to accept carrier contact portions, from processing equipment, through a guide plate or kinematic coupling. The interface contact portions acting to align the carrier and prevent tolerance build-up due to the flexing of the guide plate.

A wafer container comprising a receptacle and door provides for horizontal minimal contact support of wafers and provides for vertical support without one surface support intermediate the front edge support and rear edge support. The wafer carrier has for each wafer two distinct levels of support axially offset from one another. The first level of support is by wafer shelves contacting the bottom surface at the left side and right side of each wafer. The second level of support is provided by cushions securing the wafer at the front edge and back edge without one surface support at the left and right edges. The cushions on the door and at the rear of the receptacle are preferably removable such as by folding or compressing the cushion unit. The cushions preferably have V-shaped wafer engaging elements to constrain the wafer edge and to provide a lower ramp surface to guide and lift the front and rear edges of the wafer upwardly from the first level to the second level of support when the door is placed in position in the open front of the container portion.

Cushioned wafer container

A container for disks has an improved latching mechanism. The container comprises a cassette with sidewalls with slots for holding disks in an axial arrangement, two opposite endwalls each have a U-shaped recess extending downwardly from the open top, a top cover with a rectangular top portion and two end portions extend downwardly to cover the U-shaped recess. The top cover latches to the cassette by way of a latching mechanism which includes a living hinge, an extension portion, and a hook portion all on each end portion. The hook portion cooperates and engages with a cooperative catch member on the cassette. The extension member is under tension to secure the top cover in place. In an alternate embodiment, recesses on the extension portion connect to nubs on the cassettes or on the bottom cover to secure the top cover in place.
