A system and bent-pipe transponder component for determining a location of an individual or object in three dimensional space. The system includes a transmitter configured to transmit a first wireless electromagnetic signal at a first frequency and at least one transponder that is configured to responsively emit a second wireless electromagnetic signal having a second frequency that is frequency-shifted from the first frequency. An included receiver detecting the first and second wireless electromagnetic signals is configured to provide an output of location information for the at least one transponder. A bent-pipe transponder component may include a receiving antenna, an emitting antenna, and a frequency shift stage comprising an oscillator and a first mixer, with the frequency stage mixing a received first wireless electromagnetic signal with the output of the oscillator via the first mixer to produce the emitted second wireless electromagnetic signal.

Radio frequency identification (RFID) system for determining location

A method for transmitting a message, including an array of signal radiating elements for broadcasting signals that are unique one from another. One each of the unique signals is associated with one each of the radiating elements. One each of a set of transmitters is in electronic communication with one each of the radiating elements, and provides the associated unique signal to each of the radiating elements. A signal generating device receives the message from a message source and transforms the message into the unique signals. The unique signals, when broadcast, spatially interfere one with another such that the message is intelligibly receivable at only one location that is predetermined by the signal generating device, and is garbled at all other locations.

Waveform components are sorted and combined at reception. Received data is simultaneously processed to extract synthetic aperture radar images and moving target indication detections.

Method and apparatus for simultaneous synthetic aperture radar and moving target indication

Method and apparatus for improving the detection and discrimination of slow moving or stationary range-Doppler spread objects on or in close proximity to the ground (or sea surface). Invention detects, discriminates and separates radar returns from interference including ground clutter discretes via a coherent process for separating target returns from the myriad of received signals. Thus the method and apparatus improves the probability of detecting and declaring the presence or absence of an object at the same time that the probability of false declaration decreases. The method and apparatus may be applied to the processing of any over resolved object, including airborne radar.

Frequency diverse array with independent modulation of frequency, amplitude, and phase

A Mono-Blade Antenna is disclosed which operates over many octaves of bandwidth. Electromagnetic waveforms may be transmitted and received with multi-decade bandwidth using: a metal ground plane, a Mono-Blade Antenna element fixed above the ground plane, and a coaxial transmission line feed which is connected to the antenna element and the ground plane. The antenna element has three sections: a throat, a mouth, and a radial tip. The throat is comparatively narrow and serves as the element feed point by being connected to the center conductor of the coaxial cable. The mouth is the mid-section of the antenna element, which is the widest section of the blade. The tip of the blade is formed by an arc of approximately constant radius, which results in a low voltage standing wave ratio.

Mono-blade phase dispersionless antenna

A Two-Stage Hybrid algorithm offers significant improvement in the false alarm rate and detection performance of Space-Time Adaptive Processing in non-homogeneous environments for both radar and digital communications. The first stage analyzes data from a range cell of interest by direct data domain processing, suppressing discrete interferers within the range cell of interest. The second stage implements a purely statistical STAP algorithm, preferably an enhanced version of the Joint-Domain Localized (&ldquo;JDL&rdquo;) statistical algorithm. For radar this second stage estimates the interference within the range cell of interest from the surrounding range cells. For a communications system, the second stage estimates the covariance matrix of the interference from the entire data block. For both radar and communications, an adaptive filter that suppresses the interference is generated from the estimate by second-order statistics. The present invention is the first two-dimensional STAP technique; all prior-art is one-dimensional.

Apparatus and method for two stage hybrid space-time adaptive processing in radar and communication systems

Spatial-temporal waveform diversity methods vary or modulate the far-field radiated waveform of a radar and/or communication antenna as a function of look direction (sidelobe structure). Radar detection performance and angle of arrival estimation are enhanced to deny a coherent reference to non-cooperative bistatic radars and coherent repeater jammer systems. In the most general case, the spatial-temporal modulated waveform varies as a function of angle, based upon the principles of multi-dimensional Fourier synthesis. Spatial-temporal denial is achieved with as few as two auxiliary antennas bracketing a main antenna. The same methods for spatial-temporal waveform diversity can also embed communications signals into the transmitted radar waveform for one-way simulcast of both waveform types. These same directionally dependent simulcast waveforms can incorporate navigation signals for enhanced precision engagement.

Waveform diversity for spatial-temporal denial of radar and communication system

A Bi-Blade Antenna is disclosed which will radiate and receive multi-octave electromagnetic waveforms with century bandwidth (i.e. 100 to 1) using two blade antenna elements and a coaxial transmission line feed. The blade antenna elements each have a comparatively narrow throat, a mid-section called a mouth, and a tip. The two throats are fixed in proximity to each other and are fed by the coaxial line feed. The central conductor of the feed is connected to one throat while the outer coaxial conductor is connected to the second throat. The mouth is formed by an arc of constant radius to result in a low voltage standing wave ratio of about 1.19 to 1.

Bi-blade century bandwidth antenna

A multi-octave bandwidth antenna is disclosed which radiates with variable polarizations using: a metal ground plane, first and second blade antenna elements, first and second coaxial transmission line feeds, and a 180.degree. hybrid coupler. The two blade antenna elements are fixed above the metal ground plane in proximity with each other, and fed respectively by the central conductors of the first and second coaxial transmission line feeds. The 180.degree. hybrid coupler has a sum and difference port to control the polarization of waveforms of the antenna.

Polarization diverse phase dispersionless broadband antenna

A signal processing system applies space-time adaptive processing ('STAP') to an airborne surveillance Doppler radar comprised of a single-channel, rotating antenna. The STAP substantially improves signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio ('SINR'), thereby improving the detection of weak targets.
