There is provided a multi-core system that includes a lower-subsystem including a first processor and a number of slave processing cores. Each of the slave processing cores can be a coprocessor or a digital signal processor. The first processor is configured to control processing on the slave processing cores and includes a system dispatcher configured to control transactions for execution on the slave processing cores. The system dispatcher is configured to generate the transactions to be executed on the slave processing cores. The first processor can include a number of hardware drivers for receiving the transactions from the system dispatcher and providing the transactions to the slave processing cores for execution. The multi-core system can further include an upper sub-system in communication with the lower-subsystem and including a second processor configured to provide protocol processing.

Multi-core system with central transaction control

A method and apparatus for early detection of in-band DTMF signals in voice transmissions over an IP network are disclosed. Using a digital signal processor, whenever any indication of signals possibly corresponding to the signals characteristic of DTMF tones are detected, packets of data that would otherwise be sent over the IP network are delayed and temporarily stored in a buffer. Buffering the data packets provides a period of time for digital signal processing techniques to reliably determine whether the characteristics of the detected signal are sufficient to characterize it as a DTMF signal. If a determination is made that the signal has the necessary characteristics of a valid DTMF signal, the buffered packets are discarded and a special control packet is sent formatted to convey to the recipient characteristic information for the detected DTMF signal sufficient to allow the DTMF signal to be generated by a DTMF generator. If a determination is made that the signal does not have the necessary characteristics of a valid DTMF signal, the buffered packets are transmitted. The disclosed method and apparatus is effective to remove DTMF signals from RTP packet transmissions, and to replace the DTMF signals with RTP control packets.

Method and apparatus for early detection of DTMF signals in voice transmissions over an IP network

There is provided methods and devices for relaying tone events in a communication system. A first tone data indicative of a first tone is received and buffered. Following, a second tone data indicative of a second tone is received and buffered. The first and second tones can be, for example, DTMF digits. A processor retrieves the first tone data from the buffer and generates the first tone corresponding to the first tone data. The first tone is generated for at least a first predetermined period, which can be approximately 50 msec, for example. After the first tone has ended, the processor waits for a second predetermined period before retrieving the second tone data from the buffer. The second predetermined period can be, for example, 50 msec. Subsequently, the second tone corresponding to the second tone data is generated for at least the first predetermined period of time.

Protected mechanism for DTMF relay

A facsimile system is disclosed for transferring a facsimile using a Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) network. The facsimile system comprises a first communication processing system and a second communication processing system. The first communication processing system converts the facsimile into application packets that indicate individual application packet lengths. The first communication processing system then converts the application packets into TCP/IP packets and transfers the TCP/IP packets to the TCP/IP network. The second communication processing system receives the transferred TCP/IP packets from the TCP/IP network and converts the transferred TCP/IP packets into transferred application packets. The second communication processing system converts the transferred application packets into the facsimile using the individual application packet lengths.

Disclosed are systems and methods for signal detection. In one embodiment, a method is provided for detecting a signal. In this respect, the method comprises the steps of determining a normalized measure of a first power within a first frequency band relative to a second power within a second frequency band of an input signal in a network gateway, wherein the first frequency band is within the second frequency band; and, comparing the normalized measure of the first power with a predefined power threshold to detect a presence of an anticipated signal in the first frequency band.

System and method for detecting valid indicator signals

A system which compensates for jitter in the transfer of voice data over packet data networks. A predetermined quality of service factor is used to determine the jitter delay for received voice packets in order to optimize the number of voice packets received. The invention uses packet sequence information in the voice packet protocol to determine which voice packets are missing and which voice packets are late within a predetermined statistically significant interval. The jitter delay is decreased when the number of missing packets is significantly less than that specified by the quality of service factor. In most cases, the jitter delay is increased when the number of missing packets is greater than that specified by the quality of service factor. The jitter delay is not increased past a certain value when no late packets are observed during the predetermined interval.
