Disclosed herein are methods and systems for talkgroup-state-dependent routing of group data. An embodiment takes the form of a process that includes handling receipt of packet data addressed to a talkgroup by responsively: determining whether the talkgroup currently has an active voice session on a voice channel; if not, then routing the received packet data to the talkgroup on a data channel; and if so, then routing the received packet data to the talkgroup via metadata fields in the voice channel.

Methods and systems for talkgroup-state-dependent routing of group data

A method of interoperating link layer encrypted (LLE) and non-LLE communications in a radio network include receiving, at a radio controller (RC), a new call request for an LLE call, determining that there are one or more currently active non-LLE calls, and causing a message to be transmitted on each channel carrying one of the one or more currently active non-LLE calls informing mobile stations (MSs) participating in the non-LLE calls that a new LLE call has been or is-to-be granted. MSs participating in one of the non-LLE calls and receiving the message determine from the message or via a call grant obtained via a control channel, whether the new LLE call is of interest, and if so, switching to a channel assigned to the new LLE call and participating in the new LLE call.

Method, device, and system for notifying mobile stations participating in a non-LLE call of new LLE call

Methods and systems for LLE encrypting and decrypting voice message streams (VMSs) already supporting eTe encryption are disclosed. In one example, LLE and eTe encryption initialization vectors (EIVs) are interleaved such that an LLE EIV retrieved from one of a header and a data unit is used to LLE decrypt both the header or data unit and a subsequent data unit. A recovered eTe EIV is used to eTe decrypt voice payloads in one or more subsequent data units. In another example, a base station dynamically LLE encrypts a VMS already supporting eTe encrypting by determining whether a received VMS is eTe encrypted, and ii it is not generating a new LLE EIV, and if it is, re-using the pre-existing eTe EIV for LLE encryption. The LLE encrypted (and perhaps eTe encrypted) VMS is then sent over the air to one or more mobile stations.

Method and device for link layer decrypting and/or encrypting a voice message stream already supporting end to end encryption

A system and method for processing calls in a communication system utilizing distributed signaling. When a call signal having distributed identification data is received on a communication channel, the call information (such a voice, data, video, etc.) is initially passed through the system without verification until sufficient identification data (such as the color code) has been obtained to determine whether the source of the call is valid. Once sufficient identification data has been obtained, the source is verified. If the source is valid, the call information continues to be passed through the system. However, if source is invalid, the call information is blocked for the present call as well as for subsequent calls on the same communication channel, and passing of the call information through the system does not resume until a received call is subsequently assessed to be valid.

System and method for minimizing undesired audio in a communication system utilizing distributed signaling

The power of a signal transmitted from a mobile terminal of a half-duplex TDMA communication system to a base station is controlled by collecting data relating to bit errors in the transmitted signal received on an inbound channel, generating a time-varying statistic of the data. If the time varying statistic indicates that the power should be adjusted, a power control command is embedded in one or more time slots of an outbound channel to the mobile terminal to change the power of the signal. The data may be the bit error rate (BER) reported by a forward error correction decoder and/or returned signal strength information (RSSI). The time varying statistic may be the moving average and standard deviation of the data.

Dynamic, adaptive power control for a half-duplex wireless communication system

A device receives a communication request for a time division multiple access (TDMA) communication. Upon receipt of the communication request, the device identifies a first communication channel that currently has at least one available TDMA slot and that is currently supporting a greatest number of active TDMA communications amongst a plurality of communication channels. Once the device identifies the first communication channel, the device allocates a first available TDMA slot for the TDMA communication on the first communication channel.

Method for allocating bandwidth on a plurality of communication channels

A subscriber unit () determines that there is information to transmit, and requests an amount of bandwidth. Upon receipt of the request for bandwidth from the subscriber unit, the fixed network equipment (FNE;) determines whether the requested bandwidth is available. If yes, the FNE dynamically determines at least a first timer value to be used by the subscriber unit to detect a loss of granted bandwidth, and transmits a reservation grant to the subscriber unit granting the request. The reservation grant comprises the at least first timer value. Upon receipt of the reservation grant, the subscriber unit extracts the at least first timer value from the reservation grant and uses the at least first timer value to detect loss of granted bandwidth.
