In a vehicle, such as a lawn and garden tractor, having an engine that drives a hydrostatic transmission and having forward and reverse pedals that control the hydrostatic transmission, an operator-actuated transmission locking mechanism locks the forward and reverse pedals in a neutral position. The vehicle includes a parking brake that has a manually set portion to cause engagement of the parking brake. The transmission locking mechanism is mechanically connected to the manually set portion such that the manually set portion and the transmission locking mechanism are actuated together.

A cooling system air deflector positioned within an engine enclosure for deflecting cooling system outlet air away from a plastic grille and onto a muffler positioned within the enclosure. Ballast weights are positioned to then deflect the air out of the enclosure through the opening that is spaced from the grille.

A sound wave absorbing air intake baffle is provided for reducing the level of sound reaching an operator on a vehicle having an air cooled engine with an upwardly opening air intake passage in the hood. The baffle includes first and second chambers carrying sound absorbing material and a sound wave deflecting structure spanning the air intake opening for deflecting sound waves into the chambers. To permit cooling air to be drawn through the passage around the deflecting structure and into the engine compartment, an air deflecting structure is positioned above the sound wave deflecting structure.

Lift structure particularly useful with front mounted implements for providing both lift and weight transfer functions from a single valve. The valve acts as an adjustable bleeder for the lift cylinder and includes a control knob which is movable both axially and rotationally to respectively provide lift and adjustable flotation. The valve is normally biased to an adjustable orifice position for operating the implement in a lowered, flotation position. To momentarily lift the implement, the operator moves the control knob against the bias to direct flow to the lift cylinder thereby raising the implement off the ground. When the operator releases the valve, it automatically returns to the preset orifice position to provide the desired flotation.

Lateral sway of vertically movable hitch arms is prevented by an anti-sway link which has one end pivotally mounting one of a pair of lift arms and its opposite rigidly attached to the other of the pair of lift arms.
