An apparatus and method for delivering fluid from a syringe to a subject using a pumping device of a flow control apparatus. The method includes locating the flow control apparatus on a horizontal support surface. Providing the syringe with a volume of fluid including a total amount of preferred nutrient and an amount of non-preferred nutrient liquid. Mounting the syringe relative to the flow control apparatus whereby the syringe is oriented in a generally vertical orientation such that an outlet of the syringe faces upward. Initiating operation of the pumping device to draw the fluid from the syringe for a duration of time to preferentially deliver at least a portion of the total amount of preferred nutrient in the fluid to the subject.

An adapter assembly includes a tapered connector including a central passage and a tapered outer surface for sealing with a tube or bottle. A male connector for connection to a female connector to fluidly communicate the female connector with the tube or bottle is coupled with the tapered connector. A method of forming such an adapter assembly is also disclosed.

Adapter assembly for enteral feeding

A portable system for subatmospheric pressure therapy in connection with healing a surgical wound, including a wound dressing dimensioned for positioning relative to a wound bed of a subject and a subatmospheric pressure mechanism dimensioned to be carried or worn by the subject. The subatmospheric pressure mechanism includes a housing having a control unit adapted to draw a vacuum and a canister associated with the housing. The canister has a collection bag disposed therein, which is in fluid communication with the wound dressing to receive exudates from the wound bed. The collection bag is adapted to expand upon receipt of the fluids and has means to release gas from within the collection bag in connection with operation of the control unit. With this arrangement, the canister is attitude independent, i.e., the canister may be positioned on edge, on its side or on its end etc. while still maintaining operation of the control unit. The collection bag may include a hydrophobic vent or material for releasing the gases. In another embodiment, the collection bag comprises a gas permeable material. The collection bag may include one of pleats or bellows.

A catheter with an imaging assembly is disclosed. The catheter is used with a console for viewing and/or storing images obtained from the catheter. The catheter may be a feeding tube assembly. The imaging assembly on the feeding tube assembly allows a user to confirm placement of the feeding tube assembly in the patient's alimentary canal.

A feeding tube assembly for insertion and delivery of nutrients into an alimentary canal is disclosed. A method of facilitating the use of the feeding tube with an insufflation device is also disclosed. The feeding tube assembly has a feeding tube with opposite proximal and distal ends, a feeding passage extending between the proximal and distal ends, an outlet proximate the distal end and in fluid communication with the feeding passage, a port at the proximal end and in fluid communication with the outlet; and an air insufflation device fluidly connectable to the port comprising a compressible air bulb having a bulb inlet and a bulb outlet; an inlet check valve at the bulb inlet, an outlet check valve at the bulb outlet, and a relief valve fluidly connected to the bulb outlet.

A valve mechanism for use with a feeding set includes a reservoir of liquid and a metering device. The valve mechanism includes a valve body including a reservoir port adapted to be fluidly connected to the reservoir, a metering port adapted to be fluidly connected to the metering device, a feeding port adapted to be in fluid communication with the patient, and a priming port in fluid communication with atmosphere. A valve member in the valve body is adapted to selectively fluidly connect the reservoir port to the priming port, to fluidly connect the reservoir port to the metering port, and to fluidly connect the metering port to the feeding port.
