The present disclosure relates to medical delivery devices that include a barrel having an inner surface, and in at least one embodiment, the inner surface is hydrophilic. The medical delivery device may further include a stopper may having an elastomeric body, one or more fluoropolymer layers, and two or more ribs laminated to the one or more fluoropolymer layers. In some embodiments, the contact angle of the inner surface of the barrel is less than about 58°. Additionally, the stopper includes a sliding surface that is less than about 2.0 mm. The barrel provides inner surface that in combination with the fluoropolymer laminate or fluoropolymer film achieve high levels of air and liquid impermeability while also maintaining an acceptably low break loose force, low average glide force, and low glide force variation. In some embodiments, the compressibility stopper against the barrel is greater than about 7.9%.

Disclosed herein are systems for removing particulate matter from a fluid, comprising a particle functionalized by attachment of at least one activating group or amine functional group, wherein the modified particle complexes with the particulate matter within the fluid to form a removable complex therein. Porous polymer composites and methods of preparing porous polymer composites are provided herein. In some embodiments, a method for preparing porous polymer composites may include mixing a first polymer with a solvent and a particulate filler to form a first polymer composition, wherein the amount of particulate filler in the first polymer composition is below a mechanical percolation threshold; and removing the solvent from the first polymer composition to concentrate the first polymer and particulate filler into a second polymer composition having a porous structure, wherein the particulate filler concentration in the second polymer composition is increased above the mechanical percolation threshold during solvent removal.

Methods of adjusting the mechanical properties of a polymeric material may include forming a polymer network having a plurality of permanent cross-links and coupled to a plurality of reversible cross-links, wherein the polymer network has a shear storage modulus of greater than about 4&#xd7;10Pa; and heating the polymer network using a heat source to dissociate the reversible cross-links, wherein heating the polymer network reduces the shear storage modulus to less than about 4&#xd7;10Pa. Compositions and methods of producing paper-based materials are disclosed. In general, the techniques utilize an amine-containing polymer, such as chitosan, to functionalize one or more components of a mixture used to form materials such as paper-based materials. Such components can include the fibers of a pulp and/or filler particles. In one instance, either the pulp or the filler particles are functionalized, but not both. Such functionalization can improve the qualifies of a paper-based material relative to when such functionalization is not utilized.
