A method for starting a system-on-a-chip, SoC, without read only memory, ROM, comprises the steps of receiving, by a processor comprised by the SoC, a reset signal, monitoring, by a monitoring component comprised by the SoC, a connection between the processor and at least a non-volatile memory, both comprised by the SoC, upon occurrence of a first read access of the processor to the non-volatile memory via the connection checking, by the monitoring component, whether a data value returned in response to the first read access via the connection conforms to a pre-set value, and if the returned data value differs from the pre-set value, stopping, by the monitoring component, operation of the processor.

The invention relates to an input circuit arrangement (), which is designed for operation either in a first or a second operating mode (A, B) and comprises a connection () for supplying a connection signal (SWI) and a detection circuit (). The detection circuit () is coupled on the input side to the connection () and is designed to put the input circuit arrangement () into an operating mode from a group comprising the first and second operating modes (A, B) depending on the steepness of a change of the connection signal (SWI).

In one embodiment a current source comprises an input (In) for receiving a brightness signal (Sb), and an output (Out) for providing a driving current (Id) for at least one light-emitting diode, LED, wherein the current source (CS) is configured to extract a first and a second current value (idac_high, idac_low) from the brightness signal (Sb), to derive a duty cycle value (Smod) from the brightness signal (Sb) and to modulate the driving current (Id) as a function of the duty cycle value (Smod) in a pulse-width modulation comprising the first and the second current values (idac_high, idac_low). Furthermore, a method for providing a current is described.

A microcontroller comprises a microprocessor (), a test interface () and an internal non-erasable memory (). First control means () are provided which are able to activate and deactivate the test interface (), and second control means () are provided which are able to activate and deactivate the internal non-erasable memory (). The microprocessor () of the microcontroller comprises control outputs () which are connected with the first and second control means (). With appropriate timing of activation and deactivation of the test interface () and the internal non-erasable memory (), the microcontroller offers the possibility of preventing an unauthorized access to contents of the internal non-erasable memory () without limiting the usability of the test interface () for the development of application programs. The microcontroller further offers the possibility to entirely block access to data which are stored in the microcontroller or have been processed within the microcontroller via the test interface ().
