A computer-implemented method of lighting control is disclosed. The method includes identifying a group of people according to a relationship between or among the people that indicates the people are likely to regularly reside in a common location, determining a goal for the group of people for aligning circadian cycles of people in the group of people, determining a time and manner for altering ambient light at the common location in a manner to achieve the determined goal; and generating control signals to cause ambient lighting appliances at the common location to alter their performance according to the determined time and manner to achieve the determined goal.

Coordinated lighting adjustment for groups

A method for making modified content available includes storing an item comprising contents. A modification procedure to be performed on the item to modify the contents is identified. The method includes generating a file identifier to represent the item such that, upon a request to access the item being received, the modification procedure is performed on the item using the file identifier and the modified contents are provided in response to the request. A method for making modified content available includes receiving a request to access a file identifier that represents an item comprising contents. After receiving the request, a modification procedure to modify the contents is performed. The modification procedure is identified using the file identifier. The modified contents are provided in response to the request. A system includes an application program, a repository and a redirector.

Making modified content available

The invention provides a system for dynamically adjusting displays, particularly displays associated with electronic devices such as computers. The system provides for manual and automatic adjustment of displays, and adjustment of signals to displays, where such adjustments are made in consideration of the environment in which the display is viewed. In one embodiment the inventive system uses at least one sensor to monitor some environment condition and adjusts display color relative to sensor input. In a preferred embodiment, the system provides automatic display adjustments so that display colors adjust according to time of day, becoming warmer after dark, to simulate indoor lighting, and cooler ('sunlight-like') during the day, to match sunlight as perceived by a human viewer. Advantages of the invention include reduction of eye-strain as well as task-specific accommodations.

Adaptive color in illuminative devices

A computer-implemented method and includes identifying a change to be made in a brightness level of the light-generating appliance, the identifying of the change being effected by an input external to the light-generating appliance; determining, with a component of the light-generating appliance and in response to identifying the change to be made in the brightness level, a level of change to be made in a nonbrightness-related lighting output parameter of the light-generating appliance, to maintain a level of user stimulating light for a user visually exposed to the light-generating appliance, the level being equal as before the change in brightness level is made and after the change in brightness level is made; and changing the brightness level of the light-generating appliance according to the identified change in the brightness level, and changing the nonbrightness-related lighting output parameter based on the determined level of change to be made in the nonbrightness-related lighting output parameter.

In one embodiment, data from an electronic device is identified. The data may describe an electronic device (e.g. a hardware or software device) on which a document was created or modified, the subject matter of a document, the state of a document, or the like. Content relating to the electronic device is obtained based on the data. Method and apparatus for archiving and visualizing digital images

Systems and methods for automatic display of scaled and/or resized images that fit within pre-defined areas in a web browser are disclosed. The method may be implemented using an image scaling JavaScript component embedded within a HTML document. Upon resizing the a client document browser in which the document is displayed, the component is resized and requests, receives and redisplays a resized image within the resized component from a server. By having the server perform the resizing, the resized image not only fits within the resized component but also maintains the quality of the image without the need for special client-side software.

Methods, apparatus, computer program products and systems are provided for editing an image in a browser. One method includes receiving crop data at a server including information defining a crop size and location associated with a cropping operation to be applied to an image in accordance with user instructions received at a client device and transmitting from the server to the client device a modified image, the modified image having a uniform resource locator (URL) and being cropped in accordance with the crop data.

A computer-implemented method for correlating an electronic object with a geo-location is discussed. The one or more devices may include a peripheral device coupled to a client. Data regarding the detected devices is obtained. Such data may include information about the devices and their accessories. One or more offerings related to the one or more peripheral device are obtained based on the data. The one or more offerings may include advertisements regarding the devices. The one or more offerings relating to the devices are received at the client. Then, the one or more offerings are presented at the client.

Method and system for detection of peripheral devices and communication of related devices

In one embodiment, device presence enables persistent access to a set of resources, which may be data or services. Unique device identifiers are assigned to different computers of a user to identify the computers of the user of a network. For example, a device identifier is specific for a user and specific for a messaging system. Some time-consuming and device-specific tasks, such as synchronization of photo albums, transmitting files, sharing a printer, etc., may be interrupted temporarily, such as when the computer is restarted. Using the device identifiers, the messaging system can uniquely identify the devices involved in the tasks and detect the presence of the devices so that, after the interruption, the tasks can be resumed without user intervention.

Methods and apparatuses for identification of device presence

Methods and systems are provided for sharing images over a network. A first user selects an image for sharing and designates an image recipient. Metadata for the first image is transmitted from the first user's terminal to the image recipient's terminal. At least partly in response to receiving the metadata, the image recipient's terminal transmits a request for the first image at a first resolution to the first user's terminal. In response to the request, the first user's terminal transmits the first image at the requested first resolution to the image recipient's terminal.
