Apparatus for generating a supply of air at positive pressure for the amelioration or treatment of a respiratory disorder includes a first chamber, a second chamber, at least one inlet tube structured and configured to allow ambient air to enter the first chamber, at least one flow tube structured and configured to allow air to pass from the first chamber to the second chamber, and a blower structured and configured to produce a flow of air at positive pressure. The blower is positioned in the first chamber and structured and configured to receive air from the second chamber. The blower includes a housing structured and configured to sealingly separate air flow through an interior of the housing from the first chamber. The at least one inlet tube is axially spaced from the at least one flow tube.

Respiratory pressure therapy device

A blower includes a housing including an inlet and an outlet, a motor to drive a rotatable shaft, first and second impellers provided to the shaft, the first and second impellers each including a plurality of impeller blades, a first stationary component provided to the housing and including stator vanes downstream of the first impeller, and a second stationary component provided to the housing and including stator vanes downstream of the second impeller. A first set of stator vanes of the first stationary component is provided around the motor and are configured and arranged to direct airflow along the motor, to de-swirl the airflow and to decelerate air to increase pressure. A blower including a third impeller and third stationary component positioned above the first impeller is also described.

Blower

A stator assembly has coils in a distributed winding configuration. A poly-phase switched reluctance motor assembly may include a stator assembly with multiple coils in a distributed winding configuration. The stator assembly may have a central bore into which a rotor assembly having multiple poles is received and configured to rotate. A method of controlling a switched reluctance motor may include at least three phases wherein during each conduction period a first phase is energized with negative direction current, a second phase is energized with positive current and there is at least one non-energized phase. During each commutation period either the first phase or second phase switches off to a non-energized state and one of the non-energized phases switches on to an energized state with the same direction current as the first or second phase that was switched off. The switched reluctance motor may include a distributed winding configuration.

Switched reluctance motor

A stator assembly has coils in a distributed winding configuration. A poly-phase switched reluctance motor assemblymay include a stator assembly with multiple coils in a distributed winding configuration. The stator assembly may have a central bore into which a rotor assembly having multiple poles is received and configured to rotate. A method of controlling a switched reluctance motor may include at least three phases wherein during each conduction period a first phase is energized with negative direction current, a second phase is energized with positive current and there is at least one non-energized phase. During each commutation period either the first phase or second phase switches off to a non-energized state and one of the non-energized phases switches on to an energized state with the same direction current as the first or second phase that was switched off. The switched reluctance motor may include a distributed winding configuration.

A blower includes a housing including an inlet and an outlet, a stationary component provided to the housing, an impeller positioned between the inlet of the housing and the stationary component, a shield portion including an outer edge substantially aligning with or extending beyond an outer edge of the impeller, and a motor adapted to drive the impeller. The housing and the stationary component cooperate to define a volute that directs air towards the outlet, and the housing includes a separating wall constructed and arranged to divide the volute into a high speed airpath region and a low speed airpath region. The outer edge of the shield portion and the separating wall define a gap between the high speed airpath region and the low speed airpath region.

Switch reluctance motor

A blower includes a housing including an inlet and an outlet, a stationary component provided to the housing, an impeller positioned between the inlet of the housing and the stationary component, and a motor adapted to drive the impeller. The stationary component includes a tube portion structured to retain and align a pair of bearings that rotatably support a rotor to which the impeller is coupled. The tube portion includes a diameter in a side closest to the impeller that is sufficient size to accommodate adhesive to retain one of the bearings.

Blower and PAP system

A PAP device includes a casing adapted to fit on top of the patient's head in use and a blower including a blower outlet provided within the casing. The blower outlet is angled and/or curved towards a lower wall of the casing.

Systems, devices and methods of use adapted for treatment of respiratory disease or sleep disordered breathing include a patient interface () adapted to be secured to and sealed against a portion of a patient's face, in use. A flow generator is adapted to be connected to the patient interface and to be secured by a portion of the patient's body. The flow generator includes a blower () adapted to provide pressurized breathable gas to a patient through the patient interface. The blower is adapted to be at least partially vibrationally isolated from the patient's body by at least one dampening system () or device. The dampening device or system is adapted to reduce the amount of transmitted vibration received by the patient. A PAP system includes a patient interface including sealing arrangement () adapted to form a seal with the patient's nose and/or mouth and headgear () to support the sealing arrangement in position on the patient's head. A blower is structured to generate a supply of pressurized air. The blower is supported by the patient interface on the patient's head and in communication with the patient interface. The headgear forms one or more ducts () to communicate pressurized air from the blower to a breathing cavity defined by the sealing arrangement.

PAP system

A blower includes a housing including an inlet and an outlet, a stationary component provided to the housing, an impeller positioned between the inlet of the housing and the stationary component, and a motor adapted to drive the impeller. The housing and the stationary component cooperate to define a volute that directs air towards the outlet. The housing includes a separating wall constructed and arranged to divide the volute into a high speed airpath region and a low speed airpath region.
