The present invention relates to a liquid-cooled internal combustion engine comprising an engine block, which includes a plurality of cylinders, and cylinder heads closing the cylinders, wherein each cylinder is surrounded by a respective cooling liner and each cylinder head has provided therein at least one separate cooling chamber connected to the cooling liner of the associated cylinder via at least one transition channel, wherein the transition channels of at least two cylinders are interconnected via a pressure compensation chamber.

Liquid-cooled internal combustion engine

A flow regulating valve for a diesel engine in which a unitary valve element has three positions for controlling flow from a unit injector fuel injection system in response to valve inlet pressure. The valve has a first position wherein flow is blocked below about 10 psi, a second position between about 10 psi and 20 psi wherein flow is substantially unrestricted, and a third position above about 20 psi wherein flow is restricted to minimize return flow to a fuel supply and minimize fuel cooling requirements.

Internal combustion engine flow regulating valve

An intake manifold mixes and supplies air and exhaust recirculation gas (EGR) to an internal combustion engine. The manifold is a casting and includes an air intake port, an intake chamber receiving intake air from the intake port, an outlet plenum communicated with the engine, an EGR inlet port, and first and second EGR valve chambers. A first EGR passage communicates the EGR inlet port with the first EGR valve chamber. A second EGR passage communicates the EGR inlet port with the second EGR valve chamber. A central EGR outlet passage communicates an end of each EGR valve chamber with a central portion of the plenum. First and second EGR outlet chambers receive EGR from the first and second valve chambers, and have outlet ports which communicate with first and second ends of the plenum. A wall separates the intake chamber from the central EGR outlet passage chamber and from one of the EGR inlet passages. The wall creating turbulence as the EGR from the central EGR outlet passage mixes with intake air from the intake chamber.

Intake manifold with EGR/air mixing

An intake manifold mixes and supplies air and exhaust recirculation gas (EGR) to an internal combustion engine. The manifold is a casting and includes an air intake port formed on one side thereof, an intake chamber receiving intake air from the intake port, an outlet plenum communicated with the engine, an EGR inlet port, and first and second EGR valve chambers. A first EGR passage communicates the EGR inlet port with the first EGR valve chamber. A second EGR passage communicates the EGR inlet port with the second EGR valve chamber. A central EGR outlet passage communicates an end of each EGR valve chamber with a central portion of the plenum. First and second EGR outlet chambers receive EGR from the first and second valve chambers, and have outlet ports which communicate with first and second ends of the plenum. An EGR supply conduit and EGR valves can be installed on either side of the manifold so that the manifold can be oriented the air intake projecting upwardly or downwardly.
