A compressor system can include a lubricant injection system useful to supply lubricant to an airend. The compressor system can include a variable lubricant flow valve which can be regulated by a controller on the basis of operating conditions of the compressor system. In one form the compressor system also includes an oil separator and/or an oil cooler with or without a thermal control valve. The controller can have one or more modes of operation, including a mode in which the controller regulates the flow of lubricant to the airend to increase an internal flow area of the valve when the airend is operated at an unloaded or loaded condition. In some forms the controller can regulate the lubricant flow valve and/or the thermal control valve and/or the lubricant cooler.

A compressor system is provided that includes a contact cooled compressor and a coolant separator. The coolant separator is used to remove coolant fluid from a compressed flow stream produced by the contact cooled compressor during its operation. The coolant separator routes the removed coolant fluid back to the contact cooled compressor for further use. In some forms the coolant fluid is cooled prior to delivery back to the compressor. A stop valve can be provided in the coolant fluid return line to halt the flow of the fluid. A pressure sensitive member can be disposed to sense pressure of the coolant fluid that has been routed past the stop valve. Operation of the compressor can be changed as a result of the sensed pressure from the pressure sensitive member. Information from a temperature sensitive member can also be used to change operation of the compressor.

A compressor system can include a lubricant injection system useful to supply lubricant to an airend. A compressor system is disclosed with at least one fluid compressor for compressing a working fluid. At least one separator tank is structured to receive compressed working fluid from the compressor and separate air and lubricating fluid from the working fluid. A lubrication supply conduit is fluidly coupled between the separator tank and at least one compressor for supplying lubrication from the separator tank to the compressor. A blowdown pressure control valve is fluidly coupled to the separator tank. A controller is connected to the blowdown pressure control valve to control a pressure in the separator tank to a predetermined pressure at a compressor operating condition.

A filter element for use in a gas compression system is disclosed and is structured to filter a lubricant mist from a flow of compressed gas. The filter element includes a lip and a separator flange that extends from the lip in a generally downward direction to a basket. The basket can contain a filter media useful to remove lubricant mist from the flow of compressed gas. The separator flange is oriented in a downward direction to encourage condensate to flow toward the basket and away from a lid of a container in which the filter element is installed.

A compressor system having at least one fluid compressor for compressing a working fluid is disclosed herein. The compressor system can include at least one heat exchanger for removing heat from compressed working fluid. At least one moisture separator can be coupled to the compressor system to separate condensed liquid from the compressed working fluid. A float drain module can be positioned within the moisture separator for receiving the condensed liquid. A float valve and a check valve housed within the float drain module are movable between open and closed positions and cooperate to remove condensed liquid from the working fluid without permitting discharge of gaseous working fluid.

According to one aspect of the present disclosure, a drain system, including a sensor in communication with a reservoir and controller, uses algorithmic control of a drain valve to adjust the interval and duration of actuation of the drain valve to regulate a fluid level within the reservoir. In embodiments applying the drain system to a gas compressor system, the disclosed control algorithm enables the controller to prevent the loss of compressed gas through an open path out the drain and further to prevent condensate generated by operation of the compressor system from backing up in the reservoir and reentering the flow of compressed gas. The control algorithm adjusts the interval and period of actuation of the drain valve such that as operating conditions change the drain valve opens more or less frequently for longer or shorter periods in response to varying condensate load.

A compressor having a compressor wall that has an interior surface that defines a compression chamber, in which a rotor or pair of rotors operates to compress a fluid. To do so, the rotors are in operative communication with the interior surface. The compressor also includes an injection port in the compressor wall and opening into the compression chamber, the injection port being in fluidic communication with a second fluid. The compressor can also include an insert in operative communication with the injection port, wherein the insert and the injection port define therebetween a gap through which the second fluid enters the compression chamber.

A system for starting an engine is disclosed herein. The system includes a combination valve to control compressed fluid flow and lubricant flow to an air starter. The combination valve includes a housing having a shuttle valve and a lubricator valve disposed therein. The shuttle valve controls a compressed fluid flow and the lubricator valve controls a lubricant flow to the air starter.

A unique compressor system includes a compressor and an oil separation system. The oil separation system may include an oil separator element in fluid communication with a compressor discharge; an oil reservoir in fluid communication with the oil separator element that receives and accumulates separated oil; an oil-level controlled valve to control the flow of the oil from the oil reservoir to the compressor; and a check valve in fluid communication with the oil reservoir, the check valve being structured to prevent a reverse oil flow into the oil reservoir. A unique oil separation system, includes an oil separator element; an oil reservoir to accumulate separated oil; an oil-level controlled valve to control the flow of the from the oil reservoir; and a check valve to prevent a reverse oil flow into the oil reservoir.
