The present disclosure provides an example method that includes: (a) obtaining context data descriptive of an environment surrounding an autonomous vehicle, the context data based on map data and perception data; (b) generating, by a proposer and based on the context data: (i) a plurality of candidate trajectories, and (ii) a plurality of actor forecasts for a plurality of actors in the environment; (c) generating, by a ranker and based on the context data, the plurality of candidate trajectories, and the plurality of actor forecasts, a ranking of the plurality of candidate trajectories; and (d) controlling a motion of the autonomous vehicle based on a candidate trajectory selected based on the ranking of the plurality of candidate trajectories, wherein the proposer comprises a first machine-learned model and the ranker comprises a second machine-learned model, and wherein the first machine-learned model and the second machine-learned model use a common backbone architecture.

Autonomous vehicle motion planning

Systems and methods for controlling the motion of an autonomous are provided. In one example embodiment, a computer implemented method includes obtaining, by one or more computing devices on-board an autonomous vehicle, data associated with one or more objects that are proximate to the autonomous vehicle. The data includes a predicted path of each respective object. The method includes identifying at least one object as an object of interest based at least in part on the data associated with the object of interest. The method includes generating cost data associated with the object of interest. The method includes determining a motion plan for the autonomous vehicle based at least in part on the cost data associated with the object of interest. The method includes providing data indicative of the motion plan to one or more vehicle control systems to implement the motion plan for the autonomous vehicle.

A relative atlas graph maintains mapping data used by an autonomous vehicle. The relative atlas graph may be generated for a geographical area based on observations collected from the geographical area, and may include element nodes corresponding to elements detected from the observations along with edges that connect pairs of element nodes and define relative poses between the elements for connected pairs of element nodes, as well as relations that connect multiple element nodes to define logical relationships therebetween.

A relative atlas may be used to lay out elements in a digital map used in the control of an autonomous vehicle. A vehicle pose for the autonomous vehicle within a geographical area may be determined, and the relative atlas may be accessed to identify elements in the geographical area and to determine relative poses between those elements. The elements may then be laid out within the digital map using the determined relative poses, e.g., for use in planning vehicle trajectories, for estimating the states of traffic controls, or for tracking and/or identifying dynamic objects, among other purposes.

Use of relative atlas in an autonomous vehicle

Systems and methods for implementing a low-latency braking action for an autonomous vehicle are provided. A computing system can include a vehicle autonomy system comprising one or more processors configured to determine a motion plan for an autonomous vehicle based at least in part on sensor data from one or more sensors of the autonomous vehicle. The computing system can further include a low-latency braking system comprising one or more processors configured to determine that the autonomous vehicle has a likelihood of colliding with an object in a surrounding environment based at least in part on a previously-determined motion plan obtained from the vehicle autonomy system. In response to determining that the autonomous vehicle has a likelihood of colliding with the object in the surrounding environment, the low-latency braking system can further be configured to implement a braking action for the autonomous vehicle.

Use of relative atlas in autonomous vehicle

An on-board diagnostic system for an autonomous vehicle can receive diagnostic data from any number of AV systems of the AV. For each AV system the on-board diagnostic system can determine whether the diagnostic data indicates that the AV system is operating nominally. In response to determining a fault condition of an AV system, the on-board diagnostic system can initiate a procedure associated with the respective AV system to resolve the fault condition.
