A first fuel value (FL_Signal) indicative of the quantity of fuel presently in a fuel tank () and a second fuel value (FL_LOW_THLD) representing a quantity of fuel in the tank at which a maximum Injection Control Pressure (ICP) limit should be changed are processed by a processor (). When the result of the processing discloses that the second fuel value is less than the first fuel value, the maximum ICP limit is reduced from a greater value (ICPC_NORMAL_LMX) to a lesser value (ICPC_FL_LMX).

High pressure oil limit based on fuel level to protect fuel injectors

A set of remote switches () located outside the cab of a truck enables service personnel to crank, accelerate, decelerate, and shut off the truck's engine without having to enter the cab. The set of switches are interlocked with controls () inside the occupant compartment, including the ignition switch () that is used to crank the engine from inside the cab, via an engine control system () that uses the state of a switch that senses locking/unlocking of the cab on the chassis engine control system () to select either the remote switches or the occupant compartment controls to the exclusion of the other for controlling engine running once the engine has been cranked and started.

An internal combustion engine control system processes data to develop desired fueling data representing a desired amount of fuel that is to be injected into the engine for combustion. The desired fueling data is modified by a multiplier during a cranking, starting, and initial running phase of the engine, and after the engine has started and begins running, modifies the multiplier by a multiplier adder. Use of the multiplier added is discontinued once the engine fuel injectors have sufficiently warmed up. The multiplier adder is a function of an average of desired fueling data taken over a time interval that includes engine cranking, starting, and initial engine running.
