Organopolysiloxanes in which two polysiloxane chains are bonded via a divalent radical can be obtained by reaction of cyanuric halides with organopolysiloxanes which contain primary amino groups in substituents. The divalent radical contains 1,3,5-triazine rings, to which a halogen atom is still bonded. The organopolysiloxanes thus obtained are suitable for soft handle treatment of fiber materials. In particular, textile sheet-like structures which comprise cellulose fibers can thereby be given a soft handle and improved permanence of the treatment effects with respect to washing processes.

The present invention relates to a process for the treatment of fibrous materials with modified organopolysiloxanes, wherein, in an aqueous medium, an organopolysiloxane copolymer prepared in a first stage from customary cyclic siloxanes (A) and unsaturated silanes (B) in the presence of a crosslinking agent and emulsifier (1) is copolymerized in a second stage with at least one vinyl monomer in the presence of emulsifiers (2), and the resulting dispersion of the modified organopolysiloxane copolymer is applied to the material in the customary manner and the material is dried and subjected to condensation. The process has the advantage that the materials, in particular textiles, treated by the process, above all coated by the process, have very good waterproof properties and at the same time good to very good water repellency. However, the materials are simultaneously distinguished by a pleasant soft handle, without the degree of whiteness thereof being noticeably impaired.

Sizing agents, some of which are known compounds and some of which are novel aromatic compounds which contain in the aromatic nucleus a single hydrophobic substituent containing at least 5 carbon atoms and at least one anionic group, said hydrophobic substituent being linked to the aromatic nucleus through an ester, amide, urethane or urea bridge, with the CO group of ester and amide bridges being attached to the hydrophobic radical and a methylene group being optionally present between said bridges and the aromatic nucleus, are particularly suitable, together with commercially available retention aids, for use in a process for the mass sizing of paper or cardboard or for the surface sizing of paper.

The present invention contains a process for manufacturing a water-soluble, self-crosslinking, polymeric condensation product by reacting 1 mole di-C.sub.1-4 -alkylamino-C.sub.24 alkyl(meth)acrylates with 0.3 to 1.5 mol di-C.sub.1-3 -alkyl-phosphonates in the presence of water under heating up to a remarkable increase of the viscosity. If aqueous solutions of these condensation products are used for the treatment of fibrous materials, a very high antistatic effect is imparted to them with only small changes of shade and a very good dry- and wet rubbing fastness as well as water-fastness. Sizing agents which are novel compounds and have at least one anionic or acidic group which is optionally in salt form and at least two hydrophobic substituents of which at least two of the most adjacent ones are bonded to each other with a bridging member which has at least 1 carbon atom and 2 hetero atoms, at least one sulfur atom being present as hetero atom, in particular sulfimides or bisulfimides of fatty acid derivatives, are highly suitable for use, together with commercially available retention aids, in a process for sizing paper or cardboard.
