The invention relates to an OPW (one piece woven) airbag comprising warp threads and weft threads which are woven into at least three woven fabric layers, a lower fabric layer (UG), an upper fabric layer (OG), and a central fabric layer (MG) arranged therebetween. The warp threads and weft threads of the central fabric layer (MG) protrude out of the central fabric layer (MG) and completely float between the lower fabric layer (UG) and the upper fabric layer (OG) in a first sub-region (ETB) of the OPW airbag and are integrated into the lower fabric layer (UG) or into the upper fabric layer (OG) in a second sub-region (ZTB) of the OPW airbag.

OPW airbag

The invention relates to a one-piece woven airbag, in particular for vehicle restraint systems, with an upper fabric and a lower fabric which are joined together in a single-ply seam area forming the border of the airbag, with tether threads which are woven partially into the upper fabric and partially into the lower fabric and float there between over a defined length, which is characterized by upper limiting threads which are woven into the upper fabric and/or lower limiting threads which are woven into the lower fabric, the limiting threads between upper fabric and lower fabric floating over a defined number of floating tether threads and being attached to attachment points of their fabric layer.

One-piece woven airbag

A seam construction for a woven fabric for an OPW airbag, in particular for person restraint systems, which seam construction is characterized by a weaving seam having a single-layer region which is surrounded by an at least two-layer region, the individual layers of which have in each case a looser woven structure than the single-layer region.

Seam construction for a one piece woven airbag fabric

The invention relates to a method for the production of an air bag, more particularly a one-piece woven (OPW) air bag, comprising single layer and double layer areas, a top and bottom outer surface and a coating in at least certain areas. The invention is characteristic in that the single layer area is sealed in such a way that said areas are substantially impermeable to fluids.

Weaves or weave combinations are produced in the double- or multi-layer sections that are different from the plain weave.

Fabrication of air bag fabric

A method for producing woven airbags, especially at least partially multi-layered airbags, includes the following steps: the warp threads are prepared in a warping room, warp threads which are suitable as marker threads for machine-readable markings being already placed in the warp; the airbag material is woven, weft threads which are suitable as marker threads for machine-readable markings being interlaced over at least part of the width of the cloth; and the airbag is cut out of the airbag material using a cutting device which is guided by the interlaced machine-readable markings.

Method for producing airbags

The available fabric mass in the one-piece woven airbag as tailorized by the method, now makes it possible to reinforce the airbag fabric individually oriented. Thus, at a high stress location formerly exhibiting airbag tears, a fabric quality is now available of enhanced resistance, achieved among other things by an increase in the thermal capacity in the neuralgic locations of the airbag where namely the jet lances feature their so-called jet gill zone.
