An electronic controller includes a controller body having a head that adjoins a handle at a neck region, and that includes at least one thumb-operated control. The controller includes a hand retainer that in a closed position is configured to physically bias the user's palm against an outer surface of the handle. The hand retainer includes a resilient member that biases the hand retainer towards an open position. An adjustment mechanism couples the resilient member to the head and permits the resilient member to be adjusted betweena plurality of discrete positions to adjust the resilient member towards or away from the user's purlicue. The adjustment mechanism may include an anchor that is movable peripherally about the head between the plurality of discrete positions and is pivotably attached to the resilient member with a two-part fastener, with a friction member interposed between the resilient member and the anchor.

A hand-held text input device includes a game controller and a keyboard. The device comfortably accommodates the hands of a user while the thumbs and fingers are associated with actuators of the game controller and keys of the keyboard. The overall configuration of the device and the arrangement of the actuators and keys permit the user to operate all of the functions provided by the device while the forearms are in a neutral posture zone between pronation and supination of the forearm, while the wrists are minimally extended, and while the fingers are comfortably flexed.

A device for suppressing ambient sounds from speech received by a microphone array is provided. One embodiment of the device comprises a microphone array, a processor, an analog-to-digital converter, and memory comprising instructions stored therein that are executable by the processor. The instructions stored in the memory are configured to receive a plurality of digital sound signals, each digital sound signal based on an analog sound signal originating at the microphone array, receive a multi-channel speaker signal, generate a monophonic approximation signal of the multi-channel speaker signal, apply a linear acoustic echo canceller to suppress a first ambient sound portion of each digital sound signal, generate a combined directionally-adaptive sound signal from a combination of each digital sound signal by a combination of time-invariant and adaptive beamforming techniques, and apply one or more nonlinear noise suppression techniques to suppress a second ambient sound portion of the combined directionally-adaptive sound signal.

The base member can comprise a surface mount, a cable exit annulus, and a neck mount. The surface mount and said neck mount can attach together forming an interior cavity. A cable enters the cavity through the neck mount, and exits through the cable exit annulus. An annular neck member is rotatably attached to the neck mount, such that it can rotate in a vertical plane, and a camera housing member is in turn rotatably attached to the neck member, where the housing member can rotate in a horizontal plane.

An adaptive dock for use with media players of varying form factors is provided by an arrangement in which a device connector is located on a moveable sled that is located in the dock's base unit. A device-specific dock insert is arranged for removable engagement with the base unit to allow the base to have applicability to different media players by using the appropriately configured insert. The insert includes a device receiving space having an opening that is located to expose the media player's accessory connector. The insert further includes an actuator that slidably engages with a cam that is located on the sled to impart a lateral motion to the sled as the insert is placed downward into the dock's base unit so as to align the device connector on the sled with the opening in the insert.

A link mechanism of a game controller connecting a user-activated control to an analogue input device located a distance away. The link mechanism is adapted to provide linear or near linear rotational characteristics between the user-activated control and the analogue input device. The link mechanism can be curved, or curved over a portion of its length. Or, a slot disposed in the link mechanism to slidably engage a post of the user-activated control can be curved to facilitate desired linearity. Or, the slot can be angled. Or, the slot can be aligned so that its longitudinal axis does not intersect a pivot point of the analogue input device. Or, a distance between a pivot point of the user-activated control and the post can equal a distance between the post and a rotational pivot point of the analogue input device. Or, any combination of the above characteristics could be employed.

Force measuring systems for electronic pens, styli, or other products may include structure for changing a direction or location of application of a force (e.g., a force transmitted via pen or stylus contact with a writing surface) from a first direction or location to a second direction or location. In this manner, a sensor portion of the force measuring system may be reoriented in a direction such that it is not normal to the direction of the force. This feature may help make electronic pens or styli (or other products) thinner and dimensioned more consistent with their non-electronic counterparts. Various structures for changing the direction or location of application of the force are described.
