In an embodiment of the disclosure, there is provided a handheld vision tester for vision self-testing by a user. The handheld vision tester comprises a touchscreen display, a control, and an interface port. The touchscreen display is configured to present different shapes, either statically or dynamically, to the user for the vision self-testing. One of the different shapes may be a modulated version of another similar shape displayed at the same time and includes a modulated edge. The control is configured to allow a user to trigger operations of the tester and allow the user to select one of the different shapes. The handheld vision tester is configured to determine results of the vision self-testing from the user selections and store the results in the handheld vision tester. The interface port is configured to transmit the stored results to a healthcare provider who uses the results to enhance treatment routines.

Shape discrimination vision assessment and tracking system

A method to self-test vision of a user for use with a handheld vision tester includes receiving image data of the user's face, determining dimensions of the user's face based on the received image data, computing a user viewing distance based on the determined dimensions, displaying a vision test based on the computed user viewing distance, receiving user input responses to the vision test, and outputting results of the vision test from the user input responses.

In an embodiment of the disclosure, there is provided a handheld vision tester for vision self-testing by a user. The handheld vision tester comprises a touchscreen display and a control. The touchscreen display is configured to present different shapes, either statically or dynamically, to the user for the vision self-testing. One of the different shapes may be a modulated version of another similar shape displayed at the same time. The modulated version of the another similar shape includes a modulated edge. The control is configured to allow a user to trigger operations of the tester and allow the user to select, with the touchscreen display, one of the different shapes. The handheld vision tester is configured to determine results of the vision self-testing from the user selections.

In one aspect, there is provided an embodiment of a calibration system for use with a vision tester having a display. In this particular embodiment, the calibration system comprises a calibration stand and a reflective surface. The calibration stand is configured to hold the vision tester. The reflective surface is coupled to the calibration stand and is oriented substantially parallel to the display. The calibration stand is configured to hold the display of the vision tester at a fixed distance from the reflective surface.

Handheld vision tester and calibration thereof

A handheld vision tester and a method of self-testing vision of a user of the handheld vision tester are provided. The method ensures that a display of the handheld vision tester is within an acceptable distance to eyes of the user. Variations of the acceptable distance are compensated for. The method further displays different shapes, either dynamically or statically, on the display to the user. The method also allows for input to the handheld vision tester by the user in response to the different shapes displayed. Results of the self-test are determined from the inputs to the handheld tester by the user.

In one aspect, there is provided a handheld vision tester comprising a display, cursor control, interface port, and camera. The display delivers a series of images making up vision tests to a user who interacts with the vision tests by using the display and cursor control of the handheld vision tester. The camera verifies the user is taking the vision tests. The results of the vision tests are stored in the handheld communication device. The interface port allows for communication of the stored results of the vision tests with external devices. In another aspect, there is provided a calibration system for the handheld vision tester. The calibration system includes a stand to hold the handheld vision tester and a reflective surface substantially parallel to a display of the handheld vision tester.
