A method of storing and selecting a radio station () in a radio () having a plurality of tuner presets () and a plurality of memory locations () assigned to each of the plurality of tuner presets, includes storing a plurality of radio stations () under a tuner preset (), where each of the plurality of radio stations is stored as a record () in one of the plurality of memory locations assigned to the tuner preset. The record can include a radio station frequency () and a geographic position () of the radio at a time that the record is stored. In response to subsequent selection of the tuner preset (), a radio station is selected from the plurality of radio stations stored under the tuner preset and includes identifying the record having the geographic position that is closest to a geographic position () of the radio at a time that the tuner preset is selected and tuning the radio to the radio station frequency () of the identified record.

An improved accuracy sensory system for vehicle navigation employs a sensor, such as a compass (515), or an odometer (509), for sensing a navigation parameter of a vehicle. A signal is provided from the sensor, having an erroneous component. A model free recognizer, such as a fuzzy inferencing navigation computer (501), is employed to recognize this erroneous behavior. After recognition, the sensor can be recalibrated, or assigned a clearness coefficient. The signal is then combined with other measurements of the same parameter and subjected to map matching before deriving the final navigation variable.

Sensory system for vehicle navigation

A multi-mode route guidance system and a corresponding method for same include a device to determine a present position, preferable a GPS receiver, and an input device (111) for inputting a traveler specified destination position. Other system features include partial route planning for generating guidance instructions for guiding the traveler to an intermediate position (941) nearest to the destination position of the traveler (909), and displaying transition screens when the traveler is about to transit from a position covered by a map database having route guidance type records to a map data base having topology type records and vice-versa.

Multi-mode route guidance system and method therefor

An electronic direction finder (10), having a housing (11) with a major axis (18), has a GPS receiver (28) and directional (31) and omnidirectional (30) antennas and provides an electrical signal (angle A) indicative of the direction of the housing axis (18) with respect to a predetermined compass heading (North). The electrical signal (angle A) is provided by using determined positions of the GPS receiver (28) and one GPS satellite to calculate a compass bearing from the receiver (28) to the one satellite and using the directional antenna (31) to determine the orientation of the housing axis (18) with respect to the satellite. This eliminates using electrical output terrestrial magnetism sensing devices to sense direction finder/receiver orientation with respect to compass direction, and therefore avoids the inaccuracies and costs associated with such magnetism sensing devices.
