A gaseous fuel engine system includes a hydrogen fuel supply, an engine housing having an intake port extending to a cylinder, and an intake runner. The intake runner includes a valve mount attached to a conduit and having a valve mounting face, and a gaseous fuel admission valve is mounted upon the valve mounting face. A hydrogen fuel passage extends from the valve mount through the conduit and is oriented angularly to at least one of a clamping face of the intake runner or the valve mounting face. Related apparatus and methodology is also disclosed.

Intake runner for gaseous fuel engine, system, and method

Operating a gaseous hydrogen fuel engine includes controlling an injection timing of a gaseous hydrogen fuel injected into a flow of pressurized intake air so as to produce a leading cooling flow of pressurized intake air into a cylinder in an engine, a trailing purging flow through an intake conduit, and a middle flow of both pressurized intake air and gaseous hydrogen fuel into the cylinder. Undesired combustion such as preignition and/or backfire can be limited. Related apparatus and control logic is also disclosed.

Gaseous fuel engine system and operating method for same

A system is disclosed. The system can store a fuel reagent such as methanol for conversion into hydrogen to power one or more facility systems via a backup power system. A reactor controller can monitor a power demand of the one or more facility systems and determine whether the power demand is met by a primary power system. The fuel reagent can be provided to a fuel reactor in response to the reactor controller determining that the one or more facility systems are operating at a power deficit to generate an amount of hydrogen that, when provided to the backup power system, causes the backup power system to generate an amount of power that meets or exceeds the power deficit.

A system includes a fuel tank and a dehydration reactor that are configured to provide a primary fuel and a pilot fuel to a power system. The fuel tank is configured to store the primary fuel and is fluidly connected to a reactor feed line and a primary fuel line provide the primary fuel. The dehydration reactor is configured to receive the primary fuel via the reactor feed line and convert a portion of the primary fuel to the pilot fuel and a byproduct. The power system is configured to receive the pilot fuel from the dehydration reactor to initiate combustion of the primary fuel. The power system also includes a cylinder with an internal piston that receives the pilot fuel and the primary fuel, contains the combustion reaction, and generates power from the combustion reaction; and contains the combustion reaction. A pilot fuel injector provides the pilot fuel to the cylinder at a first time to initiate combustion and a primary fuel injector provides the pilot fuel to the cylinder at to generate power via the power system.

A fuel supply system for an internal combustion engine includes an air compressor, an air cooler connected downstream of the air compressor and the compressed air supply passage, and a bypass passage connected downstream of the air compressor. The fuel supply system also includes a fuel injector secured to the compressed air supply passage or secured to the bypass passage and a valve connected between the air compressor and the air cooler, the valve being configured to block a flow of intake air to the air cooler, causing the intake air to flow to the bypass passage or to permit the flow of intake air to the air cooler.

Operating an engine includes injecting a liquid alcohol fuel such as methanol into a stream of compressed intake air at an upstream injection location, and injecting the liquid fuel at a plurality of downstream injection locations into a plurality of streams of the compressed intake air from an intake manifold to combustion cylinders in the engine. A fueling control unit apportions a total injected quantity of the liquid fuel between the upstream injection location and the plurality of downstream injection locations based on a temperature parameter of the compressed intake air. The compressed intake air is combusted with the liquid fuel and a compression ignition pilot fuel in the plurality of combustion cylinders.

The present disclosure relates to exhaust treatment systems and engine systems. In one implementation, an engine system comprises an engine comprising an intake manifold and an exhaust manifold, the engine configured to combust a fuel-air mixture received via the intake manifold and produce a flow of exhaust gases via the exhaust manifold. The engine system also comprises a turbocharger comprising a turbine, an exhaust passageway fluidly connecting the exhaust manifold of the engine to the turbine and an intake passageway fluidly connected to the intake manifold of the engine for supplying the fuel-air mixture, a catalyzed member positioned along the exhaust passageway between the engine and the turbine, and an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) loop fluidly connected downstream of the catalyzed member and fluidly connected to the exhaust passageway and the intake passageway.

A controller for an internal combustion engine of a generator set operates the engine at a first, low load condition at a lean air/fuel ratio using hydrogen fuel, and at a second, high load condition at a richer air/fuel ratio using gaseous fuel. The controller transitions from the first condition to the second condition by adding gaseous fuel to achieve the richer air/fuel ratio during a transient event.

An internal combustion engine includes low and high pressure turbochargers connected in series. An engine cylinder has an intake valve that fluidly connects a main chamber of the engine cylinder with an outlet of the high pressure compressor through an intake passage. An exhaust gas recirculation passage is fluidly interconnected between exhaust and intake conduits. A pre-chamber encloses a spark plug and is fluidly open with the main chamber of the engine cylinder. A first fluid path extends from the intake passage directly to the pre-chamber, and a second fluid path extends from the intermediate passage directly to the pre-chamber.

Components for reducing oil sticking on surfaces of an internal combustion engine are disclosed. The engine may include an engine block with a piston cylinder, a piston moveable in reciprocal motion within the piston cylinder, and a cylinder head mounted on the engine block. The engine block, the cylinder head, and the piston may define a combustion chamber. The engine may include an intake conduit mounted to the cylinder head, an intake valve port defined by the cylinder head, and an intake valve mounted in reciprocally movable fashion to the cylinder head for placing the intake valve port in fluid communication with the combustion chamber. The engine may include a first oleophobic coating provided on portions of the intake valve, and a valve seat insert secured to the cylinder head. The valve seat insert may define an oil passage in fluid communication with the intake valve port.

Methods for reducing oil sticking on surfaces of internal combustion engines

An exhaust system for an internal combustion engine includes an EGR cooler having a heat exchange surface exposed to a flow of exhaust, and a second heat exchange surface. A coolant heat exchanger is fluidly connected to a coolant outlet of the EGR cooler and a coolant pump is fluidly connected to a coolant inlet of the EGR cooler. A condensate collector collects condensate from exhaust, and a condensate pump pumps condensate from the condensate collector to a sprayer to spray condensate onto the second heat exchange surface to vaporize the condensate for discharging out through an outgoing exhaust conduit of the exhaust system.
