A method for loading and unloading rail cars includes at least one car, having a frame and a superstructure, moved into loading and unloading positions. During unloading the car superstructure is lifted off from the frame with lifting devices to an unloading level, and after the lifting operation the superstructure is moved at the unloading level in a transverse direction with respect to a longitudinal plane of the car until the superstructure is seated completely on a loading and unloading face. During loading the superstructure is moved from the loading and unloading face in a transverse direction with respect to the longitudinal plane of the car to above the frame and the superstructure is lowered, by lifting devices, onto the frame located in the loading and unloading positions. The lifting and lowering of the superstructures is carried out by lifting devices that are anchored to the track bed or secured to a platform. Also described are a method for transferring cargo from a first train to a second train, a loading and/or unloading device, a car frame and a car superstructure.

Process for preparing phthalic anhydride by gas-phase oxidation of xylene, naphthalene or mixtures thereof in a shell-and-tube reactor thermostatted by means of a heat transfer medium over three or more different fixed-bed catalysts arranged in zones, wherein the process is carried out so that the maximum temperature in the second catalyst zone in the flow direction is up to 50&#xb0; C. lower than the maximum temperature in the first catalyst zone and the maximum temperature in the third zone from the gas inlet is from 30 to 100&#xb0; C. lower than that in the first catalyst zone. The process of the present invention makes it possible to prepare phthalic anhydride in high yields under industrially relevant conditions.

A rail vehicle system that has connecting bogies, supply units, control units, and transportation units, which can be placed on said connecting bogies in order to form a train with a modular construction. The connecting bogies contain at least two axles, one of which is equipped with an electrical drive/brake unit, and which are configured so that they can be separated in a clutch-like manner. The supply units may contain vital devices such as current collectors, transformers and power converters for extracting power form a contact line and feeding it back into the contract line or converters of primary energy or electrical energy. The control units can be configured to be independent of current and load. The transportation units may differ according to whether they are for transporting passengers or goods and according to the type of goods being transported. The interfaces of all of the units are uniform and are configured in such a way that the units can be interchanged quickly and easily. The resulting consistent division of train into functional units enables the driving power to be better adapted to the load, creates possibilities for generating and using energy and reduces operating/maintenance costs.

A copper-containing catalyst of the composition of N O contains a compound of the formula M Al O , where M is Cu or a mixture of Cu and Zn and/or Mg and x is from 0.8 to 1.5. The novel catalyst is used in a process for the catalytic decomposition of pure N O or N O contained in gas mixtures, at elevated temperatures.

A method for positioning railroad freight cars at specified positions while using robust positioning devices. One end of a train is prepositioned inside a comparatively wide area and a buffer device is activated. The locomotive pulls the train in a direction of travel until the activated buffer engages with a counter-buffer. The locomotive then exerts an additional tractive force so that the train is lengthened, whereby the front end of the first car, thus of the car coupled to the locomotive, is arranged in the area of a second counter-buffer device. A second buffer device is subsequently activated in a similar manner. The locomotive now decreases the tractive force so that the train is drawn together and so that the second buffer engages the second counter-buffer. The described positioning can be effected in the same manner by applying a pressure pretension onto the train.

The catalyst comprising at least one alkali metal on a spinel or inverse spinel as carrier may be doped with at least one compound of an alkali metal and/or alkaline earth metal, where the alkali metal/carrier ratio by weight is from 0.01 to 5 and, when a dopant is present, the dopant/carrier ratio by weight is from 0.01 to 5. The spinel therein has formula (I) and the inverse spinel has formula (II)
