Access is provided to a variable data printing app and a code detection app on a computer server. The variable data printing app is adapted to add machine-readable code to printable items and create a decoder app capable of decoding the machine-readable code. The code detection app is adapted to receive user identification information and transmit the user identification information to designer devices. The printable items are printed as printed products. The designer devices validate a user device based on the validity of the user identification information. In response, the variable data printing app is adapted to transmit the decoder app to validated user devices. The code detection app, operating on the user device, is adapted to decode the machine-readable code in user-acquired images into an optional secure link with the designer devices.

According to aspects of the embodiments, there is provided methods to measure characteristics of line width and density of printed test patterns. By printing the test patterns and capturing with an in-line scanner or optical device, the analytical results of these test patterns can be used as feedback to a control system that adjusts both impression and inking levels without the need of a skilled operator.

A printer includes a plurality of dot clock signal generators, each of which generates dot clock signals for operating ejectors in a printhead in a color station of the printer. The dot clock signal generators are connected in a chain that corresponds to the process direction of the color stations in the printer. Each dot clock signal generator is configured to count dot clock signals of a preceding dot clock signal generator in the chain or a reference clock generator to determine when the dot clock signal generator turns on and to count encoder signals corresponding to movement of a substrate through the printer to determine when to generate dot clock signals for a color station.

A color management system acquires first color data for a color patch of a test pattern printed by a first image forming device on a recto side of a sheet, acquires second color data for the color patch in the test pattern printed by the first image forming device; and acquires third color data for a corresponding color patch in the test pattern printed by a second image forming device on a recto side of a sheet which has passed through the first image forming device. The system applies a correction to the third color data, which is a function of a difference between the first color data and the second color data and which may also be a function of a difference between the second color data and the third color data.

A method of balancing responses of a plurality of sensor chips arranged generally in a linear array comprising: exposing the plurality of sensor chips to an absence of illumination; measuring a dark response of each photosensor of a plurality of photosensors; positioning a calibration piece within a field of view of the plurality of sensor chips other than a calibration sensor chip; illuminating a calibration standard and the calibration piece with a light source; measuring a light response of each photosensor of the plurality of photosensors; applying an offset to the light response of each photosensor of the plurality of photosensors by subtracting the dark response of each photosensor of the plurality of photosensors to obtain an offset light response for each photosensor of the plurality of photosensors; calculating a mean offset light response for each sensor chip of the plurality of sensor chips by averaging the offset light response for each photosensor of the plurality of photosensors in each sensor chip of the plurality of sensor chips; calculating a modified light response for each photosensor of the plurality of photosensors by modifying the offset light response for each photosensor of the plurality of photosensors based on the mean offset light response of the sensor chip comprising the respective photosensor, the mean offset light response of the calibration sensor chip, an initial mean offset light response of the sensor chip comprising the respective photosensor, and an initial mean offset light response of the calibration sensor chip; and, applying a first gain to the offset light response of each photosensor of the plurality of photosensors based on the modified light response of each respective photosensor to obtain a corrected light response of each photosensor of the plurality of photosensors.

System and method for calibrating a linear array using a calibration standard and a calibration piece with dark and light response measurements

A DMD chip includes a micromirror array mounted on a very thin silicon wafer attached to a cooling system integrated within the DMD chip. The cooling system includes a fluid cooled heat sink with a cooling channel. Fluid coolant may be pumped through the channel and out of the DMD to remove heat from the silicon substrate and the micromirror array. The micromirror array may be hermetically sealed within the housing, with the heat sink located between the micromirror array and a back wall of the housing, with both the heat sink and the array within the interior of the housing.

For example, the apparatus includes a digital mirror device (DMD), a thermal pad, wherein a first side of the thermal pad is coupled to a bottom of a housing of the DMD and a cooling block coupled to a second side of the thermal pad that is opposite the first side. The cooling block includes a plate that includes a plurality of openings that generates a liquid jet of a liquid that is forced through the plurality of openings towards a side of the cooling block coupled to the thermal pad.

The technique includes obtaining, using a sensor array configured to obtain measurements of M&#x2267;4 different spectral sensitivity responses per output pixel at low resolution, spectrophotometric data representing a plurality of output pixels representing the image-bearing surface, determining, using at least one electronic processor and based on the spectrophotometric data, high-resolution RGB data representing the image-bearing surface, determining, using at least one electronic processor and based on the spectrophotometric data, additional data representing a plurality of output pixels representing the image-bearing surface, and outputting the high-resolution RGB data and the additional data.

Dual-use full-width array and methods for usage thereof

Devices and methods load a firing distance into a distance counter of a printing device. The firing distance is the distance from the current position of a printhead of the printing device to a marking location on a substrate. These devices and methods count the firing distance in discrete distance increments using the distance counter, based on relative movement of the substrate and printhead. When the distance counter reaches the last discrete distance increment of the firing distance, these devices and methods load the fractional remaining distance of the firing distance into a time counter of the printing device. Then, such devices and methods count the fractional remaining distance in velocity-based distance increments at regular time intervals using the time counter. When the time counter reaches the last velocity-based distance increment of the fractional remaining distance, these devices and methods transfer the marking material from the printhead to the substrate.

A method of analyzing a printed test pattern includes printing first and second rows of marks, each row including at least two pluralities of marks. A gap between two pluralities of marks in the first row is located in a first position in a cross-process direction that is different than a second position of another gap between pluralities of marks in the second row. A controller identifies the first row of marks with reference to a predetermined set of image data corresponding to the first row of marks including the first plurality of marks, the second plurality of marks, and the gap in the first row.

Disclosed are image processing methods and systems to control the synchronization of two or more photoreceptor belts associated with an image processing system. According to one exemplary method, the phase error of a slave printing engine photoreceptor belt is controlled by modifying the speed of the slave printing engine photoreceptor belt by an increment which is a function of a predetermined image on image registration tolerance associated with the slave printing engine. Notable, the phase error is controlled while the slave printing engine develops an image on its respective photoreceptor belt.

A method and system for providing dynamic sensor positioning in a color image forming device. Movably mounted sensors are provided in color printers and color reproduction devices allowing for a single sensor to be utilized in a plurality of positions corresponding to a plurality of color control patches, resulting in reduced production and operating costs. In particular, a color xerographic device is provided with a movably mounted ESV that can be positioned substantially adjacent to a plurality of color control patches, thereby, allowing for a single ESV in a multi-color image forming device.

A constant torque split is maintained between a pair of drive motors for the photoreceptor belt of an electrophotographic printing machine. By varying the voltage applied to the motors according to the speed of the photoreceptor belt, the torque applied by each motor can be continuously balanced at a predetermined relationship to apply a constant torque and the desired speed may be accurately maintained. To better refine the implementation, the relationship include a ratio and an offset which may be applied, to one of the motors. Furthermore, this offset is ramped up during motor acceleration to optimize motion quality and system performance.

A method for aligning an endless belt having an optimum position within an acceptable range on associate guide rollers in a machine by manually placing the belt over an outboard end of the guide rollers and sliding the belt inward over the guide rollers to a first rough position. When it is determined that the belt has reached an acceptable range of positions, the belt is steered inward using a given operational steering angle. When it is determined that the belt has reached an optimum position, the belt is driven at an operational speed and steered inward and outward to maintain the optimum position.
