Printheads and methods for forming printheads are described herein. In one example, a printhead includes a single resistor window in a conducting layer within the printhead. The printhead also includes a number of resistors formed in a resistor film deposited over the single resistor window. The resistors have two different widths, and each of the two different widths ejects a different droplet size when energized.

Ink jet prinithead

Printheads and methods for forming printheads are described herein. In one example, a printhead includes a number of drop generators, wherein a pitch between each adjacent drop generator is substantially the same, and the drop generators alternate between a high drop weight (HDW) drop generator and a low drop weight (LDW) drop generator. The printhead also includes a flow channel from an ink source leading into an ejection chamber associated with each drop generator, wherein the flow channel comprises an inflow region proximate to the ink source, wherein an area of the inflow region is adjusted to control the flux of ink into the ejection chamber.

Ink jet printhead

In an embodiment, a fluid ejection device includes a substrate with a fluid slot, and a chamber layer over the substrate that defines a firing chamber and a fluidic channel extending through the firing chamber and in fluid communication with the slot at first and second ends. The device includes a tophat layer formed as a two-layer stack over the chamber layer, and a nozzle bore over the firing chamber that comprises a greater cavity formed in a first layer of the stack and a lesser cavity formed in a second layer of the stack, the greater cavity encompasses a larger volume than the lesser cavity.

A printhead die includes end regions, a nozzle surface region, fluid passages, ejection chambers, fluid ejectors, non-ejection chambers, and heating resistors. The nozzle surface region is disposed between the end regions. The fluid passages include corresponding ejection nozzles. The ejection nozzles are disposed on the nozzle surface region. The fluid ejectors correspond to the ejection chambers. Each one of the fluid ejectors selectively ejects printing fluid through a corresponding ejection nozzle. The plurality of heating resistors corresponds to the non-ejection chambers. The heating resistors selectively provide heat to the end regions while not ejecting printing fluid through the ejection nozzles.

Provide heat to end regions of a printhead die

A fluid ejection device includes a fluidic layer assembly mounted to a substrate, the fluidic layer assembly having a raised portion formed on a side that faces away from the substrate. A first nozzle is formed through a portion of the fluidic layer assembly other than the raised portion, and a second, larger nozzle is formed through the raised portion. A method of fabricating a fluid ejection device includes applying a first layer of a photoresist material to a substrate and a second layer of a photoresist material to the first layer. A sequence of exposures defines a first region of soluble material in the first layer that becomes the first nozzle and second and third regions of soluble material in the first and second layers, respectively, that jointly become the second nozzle. A region of insoluble material in the second layer becomes the raised portion.

Fluid ejection devices and methods of fabrication

Several improvements have been made in inkjet print cartridges to realize 5 ng drop weights at ejection frequencies of 18 KHz. These improvements include small nozzle openings, improved heater resistor efficiency, and better ink supply reliability.

High print quality inkjet printhead

The described embodiments relate to methods and systems for forming slots in a substrate. In one exemplary embodiment, a slot is formed in a substrate that has first and second opposing surfaces. A first trench is dry etched through the first surface of the substrate. A second trench is created through the second surface of the substrate effective to form, in combination with the first trench, a slot. At least a portion of the slot passes entirely through the substrate, and the maximum width of the slot is less than or equal to about 50 of the thickness of the substrate.

Methods and systems for forming slots in a substrate

A fluid ejection device includes a substrate, drop generators formed on the substrate at a high density, primitive select lines, and a ground line. The drop generators are arranged in primitives of drop generators. Each drop generator includes a heater resistor having a high resistance. Each primitive select line is separately electrically coupled to a corresponding one of the primitives and is configured to connect to a power source. The ground line is electrically coupled to all of the primitives.

High quality fluid ejection device

Fluid ejection device includes a substrate having a top surface and a bottom surface. A plurality of fluid drop generators are formed on the top surface of the substrate along a shelf region, each including a firing chamber. A fluid feed slot structure is defined in the substrate, and has a side wall. A plurality of features formed in the side wall creates at least one diverging channel directed away from the shelf region.

Fluid ejection device

A high quality inkjet printhead includes a substrate having a multiplicity of heater resistors formed thereon at a density of at least six heater resistors per square millimeter. Each of the heater resistors also has a total resistance of at least 70 &OHgr; and an overlaying passivation thermal barrier characteristic adjusted to enable ejection of an ink drop of less than 6.5 ng with an energy impulse equal to or less than 1.4 &mgr;joules.

High print quality printhead

An ink jet print head with a substrate defining an ink aperture. A number of ink energizing elements are located on the major surface of the substrate. A barrier layer is connected to the upper surface, and peripherally encloses an ink manifold. The barrier encompasses the ink aperture. An orifice plate is connected to the barrier layer, spaced apart from the substrate's major surface, enclosing the ink manifold. The plate defines a number of orifices, each associated with a respective ink energizing element. The ink manifold is an elongated chamber having opposed ends defined by end wall portions of the barrier layer. The barrier end wall portions each have an intermediate end wall portion protruding into the manifold. Columnar structures placed at predetermined locations, including locations at the end of the ink aperture, and extending from the major surface to the orifice plate control the migration of coalescing bubbles.
