An improved antenna configuration for a communication device is provided that enables ultra wideband operation. The antenna may be formed of two sections, a primary section built into the communication device and a replaceable secondary section disposed on a data card. The primary section is common for all frequency bands of operation which the antenna is intended to cover. The replaceable secondary section is unique to predetermined frequency bands and provides tuning for the overall antenna. A data card tray antenna configuration is also provided which is suitable for a stand-alone antenna or as part of a sectional antenna.

A vehicle adapter configured to be mounted to a vehicle. The vehicle adapter includes a body sized and shaped to receive and hold a portable communications device, the body including a surface configured to press against the portable communications device. The vehicle adapter further includes a cooling system coupled to the body, the cooling system including a conduit configured to deliver a coolant to an internal channel of the portable communications device. The conduit defines a projection sized and shaped to press against and open a valve on the portable communications device when the portable communications device is received into the vehicle adapter.

A method and apparatus for board-to-board circuit connection. In one example, a connector system includes a printed circuit board having a first set of electrical pads and at least one electrical component positioned between the first set of electrical pads and an adapter frame. The adapter frame includes a second set of electrical pads on a bottom surface and connected to the first set of electrical pads of the printed circuit board and a third set of electrical pads on a top surface and electrically connected to the second set of electrical pads. The adapter frame further includes a chamber configured to house the at least one electrical component and having electrical shielding that forms at least a partial Faraday cage around the at least one electrical component. A connector receptacle having a set of pins is connected to the third set of electrical pads.

A cradle locks a mobile unit (MU) therein with a single insertion process. The cradle includes a cup shaped to receive a first portion of the MU. The cradle includes a backing portion including a first end coupled to the cup portion. The cradle includes a hoop portion movably coupled to a second end of the backing portion for movement between a securing position and a receiving position, the hoop being biased toward the securing position. The cradle includes a latch releasably securing the hoop portion in the receiving position. The cradle includes a plunger extending out of the backing portion in a first direction so that, when engaged by the MU, the plunger is moved in a second direction opposite the first direction moving the latch to release the hoop portion so that the hoop portion moves under its bias into the securing position.

A vehicular adapter () provides an interface to accommodate a variety of contacts located on different surfaces of a portable radio (). The vehicular adapter includes a rotating pocket (), pivot arms () and a locking mechanism (). The rotating pocket () provides a first set of contacts (). One pivot arm () provides an antenna probe () on one surface of the vehicular adapter while another pivot arm () provides connector side contacts () to a side surface of the vehicular adapter. The pivot arms () pivot in response to the rotating pocket () being rotated thereby moving their respective contacts into position for mating with the portable radio ().

An electronic device () comprises a touch screen (), a pen-form stylus () for activating the touch screen (), and a receptacle () located within or coupled to the electronic device () for storage of the pen-form stylus (). The electronic device () comprises a flexible attachment mechanism () that is fixed to both the pen-form stylus () and the electronic device (). The stylus () comprises a slot () such that the flexible attachment mechanism () is located within the slot (). In this manner, an efficient geometry of the electronic device prevents the stylus being misplaced and enables the flexible attachment mechanism () to be located within the slot by the action of inserting the stylus () into the receptacle ().
