Modules and control units cooperate to simultaneously and independently control and adjust pixel parameters non-uniformly at regional increments across an entire image captured in an image frame by pixels in a pixel array. Pixel parameter changes for pixels in a given region occur, based on i) a contextual understanding of what contextually was happening in the one or more prior image frames and ii) whether salient items are located within that region. Additionally, guidance is sent to the sensor control unit to i) increase or decrease pixel parameters within those regions with salient items and then either to i) maintain, ii) increase or iii) decrease pixel parameters within regions without salient items in order to stay within any i) bandwidth limitations ii) memory storage, and/or iii) power consumptions limitations imposed by 1) one or more image sensors or 2) the communication loop between the sensor control unit and the image processing unit.

Methods for enhanced imaging based on semantic processing and dynamic scene modeling

Device logic in a mobile device configures a processor to capture a series of images, such as a video, using a consumer-grade camera, and to analyze the images to determine the best-focused image, of the series of images, that captures a region of interest. The images may be of a textured surface, such as facial skin of a mobile device user. The processor sets a focal length of the camera to a fixed position for collecting the images. The processor may guide the user to position the mobile device for capturing the images, using audible cues. For each image, the processor crops the image to the region of interest, extracts luminance information, and determines one or more energy levels of the luminance via a Laplacian pyramid. The energy levels may be filtered, and then are compared to energy levels of the other images to determine the best-focused image.

Embodiments of the present invention provide for a region-of-interest compression methodology wherein a variety of encoders may be utilized to perform video compression on a plurality of filtered video frames without the need to generate specific instructions for each of the variety of encoders. Embodiments of the present invention receive a video frame and create a region-of-interest map based on the received video frame. The region-of-interest map is utilized to create a filtered video frame based on the received video frame. This process may be repeated for each video frame within a video stream, thereby creating a plurality of filtered video frames. Method and system for providing region-of-interest video compression

A method, system, and computer-readable medium for facilitating integrity verification of a transport stream is provided. Integrity verification is performed without increasing the bit rate of the transport stream by generating a checksum corresponding to a portion of the transport stream and inserting the checksum into a null packet within the transport stream. Utilizing a null packet to carry the checksum allows the checksum to be transmitted without increasing the bit rate of the transport stream. In addition, by creating a checksum corresponding to a portion of the transport stream, integrity verification may be performed on a streaming data file.

A method and projection system for distorting a recording of a plurality of projected frames is disclosed, comprising a high frame rate display configured to impose a modulation on the projected frames at a frequency that is above the critical fusion frequency of the human visual system, wherein the modulation is of one of shutter width relative to shutter spacing, brightness, frame period, and pseudo-rastering. The high frame rate display may be a tonal display. The projection system may further include hardware for producing low frame rate imagery; an input buffer operatively coupled to said hardware for receiving one of a serial bit stream or blocks of data so as to store at least a predetermined portion of a frame; and a sub-frame generator operatively coupled to said input buffer and to said high frame rate tonal display for applying mathematical modulation techniques to said at least a predetermined portion of a frame.

The received transport stream can be an MPEG-2 transport stream. A channel is inserted into a sequence of frames for an image, by varying one or more display characteristics of the resulting image across the display. The watermark and other data channel may be employed to watermark the video signal, and the watermark may correspond to the presence of the channel or may be data in accordance with watermark information carried within the channel. For most display devices, display variations are minimized during the design process, but human viewers may still tolerate and accept subtle variations in a displayed image. For exemplary embodiments in accordance with the present invention, slightly changing one or more display characteristics from center-to-side in accordance with watermark information allows for watermarking of the image since viewers may not be aware that display characteristics are changing. For example, a tapering function may be used in a transmitter to vary one or more color components of the video signal representing the image. A receiver includes a watermark detector that has a priori information about the watermark. The watermark detector examines specific regions of the displayed image over time, and tests the regions for the watermark during time intervals when the image remains relatively still. A histogram of each color component of the region may be generated, and the watermark detected by comparing the histograms for the watermarked and non-watermarked color components. The watermark is detected if the histogram of the watermarked color component varies in manner related to the tapering function. Watermarking of the image in this manner is robust to subsequent signal processing methods, such as scaling, cropping, rotation, and compression.
