An article of footwear includes an upper and a sole coupled to the upper. The sole includes an insole for receiving a foot of a wearer and a sole member disposed below the insole to support the foot of the wearer. The sole member includes a web extending along a length of the sole and a plurality of pillars projecting upwardly from the web toward the insole. Each of the pillars includes a curved sidewall and a lid extending from an upper end of the curved sidewall. The curved sidewall and the lid define a cavity. The web and the plurality of pillars of the sole member are unitary and made of an elastomeric material that allows the pillars to flex or deform at a compressed state and return to an upright position at a relaxed state.

Extruded components for articles of footwear and methods of making such articles of footwear are disclosed. A carrier can be formed from a first material, the carrier including an attachment surface configured to attach to an upper and a receiving surface having a plurality of receptacles. A second material can be extruded into a plurality of the receptacles to form cushioning elements of a sole.

An article of footwear includes a sole having a forefoot portion, a heel portion and an outsole having a bottom surface including a primary ground contacting surface. The bottom surface of the outsole includes a forefoot bulge and a heel bulge which provide the footwear with controlled instability for providing dynamic conditioning of the wearer's muscles during the gait cycle.

An article of footwear may include a midsole having a plurality of cavities formed therein and a flexible cage member disposed on the midsole and extending across at least one of the plurality of cavities. Articles of footwear are disclosed. In one embodiment, an article of footwear comprises a sole having a forefoot portion and a heel portion. The sole comprises a midsole, an intermediate sole, and a ground contacting surface. At least a portion of the intermediate sole extends from the midsole such that a forefoot bulge substantially covers the forefoot portion of the ground contacting surface and a heel bulge substantially covers the heel portion of the ground contacting surface.
