A retaining piece for an earpiece of an in-ear audio output device comprises a retainer portion and a cantilevered portion. The cantilevered portion comprises a coupling edge and a free edge which is substantially opposite the coupling edge. The cantilevered portion is coupled to the retainer portion at the coupling edge and is configured to engage with at least a part of an outer wall of a concha of a user's pinna. The cantilevered portion comprises a convexly curved section between the coupling edge and the free edge. When the cantilevered portion is in an engaged state, the coupling edge is more medial than the free edge.

Retaining piece for an earpiece

Aspects describe a dual-planar retaining piece for stabilizing and securing earpiece in a wearer's ear. The retaining piece is either fixed or removable from the earpiece. The retaining piece includes a first cantilevered portion shaped to flexibly fit under the antitragus of a wearer's ear when the earpiece is worn, a second cantilevered portion shaped to flexibly fit under the antihelix of the wearer's ear when the earpiece is worn, and at least one attachment feature that couples the retaining piece to a body of the earpiece, wherein the body is shaped to fit in the lower concha of the wearer's ear when the earpiece is worn. In aspects, the first and second cantilevered portions are integrally formed.

In-ear earpiece retaining structure

An ear tip includes a body configured to be mounted onto an earbud. The body includes a first end, a second end opposite the first end, and a first wall extending between the first and second ends. The first wall defines and surrounds a hollow passage that is configured to conduct sound waves. The first wall is configured to engage a nozzle on the earbud. The first wall includes a ring that is formed of a rigid material and engages the nozzle. The ring includes at least one C-shaped member with at least one gap and a compliant material is molded around the ring and fills the gap.

Ear tips and related devices and methods

An ear tip includes a body configured to be mounted onto an earbud. The body includes a first end, a second end opposite the first end, and an inner wall extending between the first and second ends. The inner wall defines and surrounds a hollow passage that is configured to conduct sound waves. The body also includes an outer wall that is connected to the inner wall at the first end and extends away from the inner wall toward the second end. The inner wall has an oblong cross-sectional shape that is configured to accommodate a corresponding nozzle on the earbud. The inner wall includes a ring that is formed of a rigid material and engages and conforms to the oblong shape of the nozzle, which inhibits improper mounting and rotation of the ear tip relative to the nozzle.

Aspects describe a nozzle including a first flexible portion and a second rigid portion. The rigid portion is less flexible than the flexible portion. When positioned in a user's ear, the flexible portion extends a section of the earbud housing towards an ear canal of a user and the rigid portion couples a removable sealing structure to the earbud housing. In aspects, the flexible portion provides comfort by allowing a sealing structure to flex and accommodate a wearer's ear and the rigid portion provides structure for the feedback microphone to be placed close to the user's ear canal for ANR.

Aspects describe an earpiece with structure for positioning and retaining the earpiece and with structure for sealing against the entrance to the ear canal. According to aspects, the retaining structure has at least one substantially elliptical leg configured to follow the curve of the anti-helix and/or the cymba concha at the rear of the concha. The leg increases in thickness from a tip of the earpiece towards the body of the earpiece. The sealing structure is substantially frusto-conical and extends from a nozzle. The nozzle is angled to align with ear geometry. In an example, he sealing structure has a slight radius on an outer surface of the sealing structure. In another example, the sealing structure has a substantially constant thickness from the nozzle to the wide end of the sealing structure.

A headphone includes an electro-acoustic transducer for creating audio output, the electro-acoustic transducer comprising a transducer magnet that produces a transducer magnetic field having a magnetic field strength, a housing constructed and arranged to be positioned at an ear of a wearer so as to direct the audio output at the ear canal of the ear, a magnetic field sensor positioned in the housing and constructed and arranged to sense the Earth's magnetic field, and a nulling magnet positioned in the housing and constructed and arranged to produce a nulling magnetic field that reduces the strength of the transducer magnetic field at the magnetic field sensor.

An ear tip for an earphone includes an interior mating surface for attaching the ear tip to the earphone, the interior mating surface at least partially surrounding a cavity where the earphone will be located when the ear tip may be so attached, an outer surface including features corresponding to human ear anatomy, a nozzle extension providing a passageway from the interior cavity to space outside the ear tip, a wax guard in the nozzle extension, the wax guard blocking the passageway, and a plurality of holes through the wax guard, the holes sized and arranged to allow sound to pass along the passageway, while inhibiting ear wax from passing along the passageway.
