A pump includes a housing including a first portion thereof defining opposed parallel spaced apart internal and exterior generally planar surfaces. The pump also includes a first impeller rotatably secured to the housing and positioned within the housing. The pump also includes a first axial flux motor connected to the first impeller and at least partially positioned within the housing. The first axial flux motor includes a first motor rotor fixedly secured to the first impeller. The first motor rotor has a generally planar surface thereof positioned adjacent to and parallel to the internal generally planar surface of the first portion of the housing. The first axial flux motor includes a first motor stator fixedly secured to the housing. The first motor stator has a generally planar surface thereof positioned adjacent to and parallel to the external generally planar surface of the first portion of the housing.

A blower includes an impeller housing, an impeller rotatably secured to the housing and an electric motor. The motor has a motor housing with a central portion and a radially extending portion extending from the central portion, a venturi chamber adjacent the motor housing and opposed to the impeller housing, a stator secured to the central portion of the motor housing, a rotor rotatably secured to the central portion of the housing, and at least one heat generating electrical component secured to the radially extending portion of the motor housing. The impeller housing has a first air pressure therein and the motor housing has a second air pressure therein different that the first air pressure. The venturi housing and the motor housing define a passageway therebetween whereby the difference in air pressure generates air flow within the motor housing to cool the at least one heat generating electrical component.

Blower, electric machine and associated method

According to an embodiment of the invention, an electric machine is provided. The machine includes a support structure, a stator secured to the support structure, and a rotor rotatably secured to the support structure. The machine also includes a circuit board positioned at least partially within the support structure. The circuit board is adapted for controlling an electromagnetic field produced by the stator. The machine also includes a potting material in contact with a first surface of the circuit board and a harrier for at least partially containing the potting material.

A pumping device for pumping a fluid is provided. The pumping device includes a pump and a power housing. At least a portion of the pump is positioned within the power housing. The pumping device also includes a first motor and a second motor. The first motor is operably connected to the pump and adapted to provide energy to the pump. At least a portion of the first motor is positioned within the power housing. The second motor is operably connected to the pump and adapted to provide energy to the pump. At least a portion of the second motor is positioned within the power housing.

A housing for coupling to a motor having an axis of rotation is provided. The housing includes an end cap having an outer surface and an inner surface. The housing also includes a plurality of first heat fins coupled to the outer surface. Each first heat fin of the plurality of first heat fins includes a first portion extending radially from the axis of rotation. In addition, the housing includes a second portion coupled to first portion and extending parallel to the axis of rotation. The housing further includes a second heat fin coupled to the second portion.

A centrifugal fan is described. The fan uses a blade that is tapered across the span of the blade. The taper can be larger towards the end opposite of the inlet or larger at the inlet. The blade may be backwardly inclined and/or curved. The fan may also include a turning vane.

A fluid flow system is provided. The system includes a rotation producing device, a first fluid flow device coupled to the rotation producing device and a second fluid flow device coupled to the rotation producing device and spaced from the first fluid flow device.

An electric machine is provided. The electric machine includes a rotor and a stator. The stator includes a plurality of teeth and a plurality of windings. Each of the plurality of windings is positioned around at least one of the plurality of teeth. The electric machine further includes a leakage current shielding system. The leakage current shielding system includes a plurality of leakage current shields. Each of the current shields includes a body portion thereof which is positioned between the plurality of teeth and the plurality of windings. Each of the leakage current shields also includes a connecting portion that extends from the body portion. The leakage current shielding system also includes a plurality of connectors. Each of the plurality of connectors is adapted for receiving the connection portion of the leakage current shield. The leakage current shielding system also includes a connecting ring for securing the plurality of connectors.

Electric machine, conductor guide and associated method

According to an embodiment of the invention, an electric machine for use in an environment having moisture is provided. The machine includes a housing that has an inner surface defining a cavity in the housing. The housing defines a leak path exit adapted to remove moisture accumulating within the housing away from the housing. The electric machine further includes a stator secured to the housing and a rotor that is rotatably secured to the housing. The electric machine further includes a moisture guide positioned at least partially within the cavity and adapted to guide at least some of the moisture toward the leak path exit.

A housing for enclosing electronics of a motor having an axis of rotation is provided. The housing includes an end cap having an outer surface and an inner surface. A control board is coupled to the inner surface, wherein the printed circuit board includes a first side, a second side and an edge located between the first side and the second side. The housing further includes a first circuit coupled to the first side which includes a plurality of first electrical components. Each first electrical component includes a tab extending beyond the edge. A second circuit is coupled to the second side and a fastener assembly is coupled to the tab and the inner surface.

In one embodiment, a permanent magnet rotor is provided. The permanent magnet rotor includes a substantially cylindrical rotor core including an outer edge, an inner edge, and opposed first and second ends. The rotor further includes a first wall and a second wall defining at least one radial aperture extending radially through the rotor core. The rotor further includes at least one permanent magnet positioned within the at least one radial aperture. A first indentation is formed in one of the at least one permanent magnet and the first wall, the first indentation defining a first space between the at least one permanent magnet and the radial aperture first wall. The rotor further includes a first material positioned within the first space, the material configured to substantially prevent movement of the permanent magnet relative to the at least one radial aperture.

Radially embedded permanent magnet rotor having magnet retention features and methods thereof

A bearing assembly cooperates with a bearing seat formed in a bearing housing and includes a bearing having an inner ring, an outer ring and a rolling element in engagement with the rings and an anti-rotation device. The anti-rotation device engages the outer ring to the bearing housing limiting rotation of the outer ring within the bearing seat. The anti-rotation device includes a first feature engaging the outer ring and a second feature engaging the bearing housing. The features limit the rotation of the outer ring within the bearing seat. The first feature has an internal surface for engagement the outer ring and the second feature includes an engagement surface for engaging a protrusion extending from the bearing housing.

End cap

An electric motor assembly capable of withstanding heavy side loading includes a motor housing having a shell with first and second end shields including bearing supports having bearings therein. The first end shield further includes a flange for connecting a compressor to the motor. A rotor is rotatably mounted in the housing and supported by the bearings. A stiffening collar, positioned between a rotor core and the first end shield, surrounds a portion of a rotor shaft and provides support for the shaft against deflection due to heavy side loading. A centrifugal mechanism and a spacer are positioned on the rotor assembly outboard of the motor housing. The motor assembly also includes a cover attached to the second end shield. The cover holds a start capacitor, a run capacitor and a centrifugal switch and further includes snaps for mounting the centrifugal switch to the cover. An overload and an overload bracket extend, at least partially, through an opening in the second end shield. The overload bracket includes snaps that engage the second end shield and maintain the bracket and overload in position. A load washer having a plurality of snaps engages the second end shield and maintains the load washer in position on the second end shield.

Shaft support assembly for direct drive motor

A pole cap insulator is used in a field assembly of a motor having a cylindrical motor frame where the field assembly includes a winding having a central opening therein, and a pole member having a base portion with side surfaces and top and bottom surfaces. The pole cap insulator includes a generally rectangular body portion having a back edge disposed proximal the motor frame, and side boundaries disposed opposite each other. The body portion has a radially inwardly facing edge disposed opposite the back edge and tapered tip portions outwardly extending from opposite side boundaries cooperating with the radially inwardly facing edge to form a curved edge corresponding to a curved contour of the pole member. Also included are integrally formed side walls depending from the side boundaries of the body portion configured to engage a portion of the side surfaces of the pole member such that the body portion is retained on the top and bottom surfaces of the base portion so as to insulate the winding from the base portion when the base portion is received through the central opening of the winding.
