An automation device having a plurality of modules, where at least one first module is configured to supply the other modules electrical power and a second module is configured to determine the total power requirement of the automation device, wherein the second module determines the total power requirement from the information relating to the power requirement of the respective module, which information is stored in the other modules, and compares the total power requirement with a threshold value and initiates measures for reducing the power requirement of at least one of the other modules based on the comparison result to prevent an overload due to improper or inappropriate installation of the automation device in a switchgear cabinet and resultant reduced air convection.

Automation device

A modular electrical system including a first current-emitting source module and a first current-consuming sink module which is connected to the first current-emitting source module is provided. The first sink module has a first sink identification means to identify maximum power requirement of the first sink module. The object of providing power balancing between a first source module and a first sink module is achieved in that the first source module has a first source identification means for identifying the power capacity of the first source module, wherein in order to calculate a power ratio of the system the first sink identification means and the first source identification means are connected to a two-wire line for the purpose of generating a differential voltage.

A device for the coding of plug receptacles in a support unit for electronic modules is described. Coding slides having a pin are provided on the support unit for each plug receptacle so that only those modules having a recess for the pin corresponding to a particular position of the coding slide can be inserted into the particular plug receptacle. This prevents, for example, modules with 24 V direct current supply from being inserted into plug receptacles wired for 230 V alternating current and vice versa.
