This invention relates to heterogeneous catalysts useful for selective hydrogenation of unsaturated hydrocarbons, comprising palladium and optionally a promoter, supported on a substrate, having an uncoated BET surface area of ≤9 m/g, the surface being coated with an ionic liquid. Also described are methods of making the catalysts and methods of selective hydrogenation of acetylene and/or dienes in front-end mixed olefin feed streams.

Catalyst composition for selective hydrogenation with improved characteristics

The disclosure provides an improved endothermic hydrocarbon conversion process that comprises reacting a hydrocarbon with a multi-component catalyst bed, and regenerating the catalyst bed with air, where the air used in regeneration step and hydrocarbon are at low air to hydrocarbon ratios and optionally at near-atmospheric pressures.

A two catalyst system is described having separate catalyst beds for the selective conversion of acetylene to ethylene which reduces the concentration of acetylene, dienes, O2, and NOx is disclosed. An ethylene containing gas stream, such as an off-gas stream from a refinery catalytic cracking unit used in the production of fuels and gas oils, is treated by first contacting the gas stream with a silver catalyst supported on a metal oxide and subsequently contacting the gas stream with a ruthenium catalyst supported on metal oxide. Method and system for purifying an ethylene-containing gas stream

A method for purification of ethylene-containing feedstreams from steam crackers or fluid catalytic crackers (FCC), wherein the feedstreams further comprises hydrogen, carbon monoxide, acetylenes, oxygen, nitric oxides, is disclosed. The method comprises contacting an ethylene-comprising gas stream with a Ru-based catalyst at reaction temperatures of at least 120&#xb0;C. The process results in an ethylene-containing feedstream wherein the ethylene is essentially free of acetylenes, nitric oxides and oxygen. The purifying of the feedstream occurs with minimal loss of ethylene.

Process for purification of ethylene-containing feedstreams

The present invention is an improved cyclic, endothermic hydrocarbon conversion process and a catalyst bed system for accomplishing the same. Specifically, the improved process comprises reacting a hydrocarbon with a multi-component catalyst bed in such a manner that the temperature within the catalyst bed remains within controlled temperature ranges throughout all stages of the process. The multi-component catalyst bed comprises a reaction-specific catalyst physically mixed with a heat-generating material.

A system for dehydrogenating a C3 or C4 hydrocarbon feed stream containing a first and second layer of catalysts placed in the hydrocarbon feed stream, wherein the feed stream first passes through the first layer and then the second layer of catalysts and wherein the catalysts of the first layer contain from about 50 to about 90 percent by weight of an eta-alumina carrier, from about 10 to about 50 percent by weight of chromia and from about 0.1 to about 5 percent by weight of a zirconium compound and wherein the catalysts of the second layer of catalysts contain from about 50 to about 90 percent by weight of an eta-alumina carrier and from about 10 to about 50 percent by weight of chromia, without an added zirconium compound.

Multi-layered dehydrogenation catalyst system and process of use

An improved dehydrogenation catalyst bed system for olefin production utilizing classical processing techniques is disclosed. The catalyst bed system comprises a dehydrogenation catalyst comprising an active component selected from an oxide of a metal of Group 4 or Group 5 or Group 6 and combinations thereof and a support selected from aluminum oxide, aluminas, alumina monohydrate, alumina trihydrate, alumina-silica, transition aluminas, alpha-alumina, silica, silicate, aluminates, calcined hydrotalcites, zeolites and combinations thereof mixed with a first inert material selected from any material that is catalytically inactive when subjected to reaction conditions that can effect dehydrogenation of olefins and that has a high density and high heat capacity and that is not capable of producing heat during any stage of the dehydrogenation process, and the dehydrogenation catalyst plus the first inert material then being physically mixed with a secondary component comprising a heat-generating inert material and a carrier capable of supporting the heat-generating inert material, wherein the secondary component is catalytically inert with respect to dehydrogenation reactions or to cracking or to coking and generates heat after being exposed to reducing and/or to oxidizing reaction conditions.

Catalytically inactive heat generator and improved dehydrogenation process

A process for adiabatic, non-oxidative dehydrogenation of hydrocarbons including passing a hydrocarbon feed stream through a catalyst bed, wherein the catalyst bed includes a first layer of a catalyst and second layer of a catalyst, wherein the catalyst of the first layer has high activity but a higher capacity for producing coke than the catalyst of the second layer and the second catalyst also has high activity but a lower capacity for producing coke than the catalyst of the first layer.

Dehydrogenation process

The present development relates to a modification of the Houdry process for the dehydrogenation of aliphatic hydrocarbons, whereby the dehydrogenation cycle is extended, or lengthened, and hydrogen gas is added into the reaction. The combination of the extended cycle with the hydrogen introduction results in a surprising stabilization of the production rate in the dehydrogenation process. The hydrogen gas may be introduced through a recycle step. The process of the present development is demonstrated for the dehydrogenation of propane to propylene.
